Brilliant engineering on Suzuki's behalf... I grew up a Suzuki fan having worshipped Roger DeCoster and his yellow open class works motocross bikes.  Suzuki had always been focused on weight - that is, on a lack of weight (in the words of Colin Chapman "add lightness") and it served them well until the governing body of world MX started requiring minimum weights for all the competitors.  Suzuki still won a few more world championships.

Note: 10:52  East German police did not ban MZ from racing beyond the Iron curtain, and stopped only road racing. The MZ factory switched to off-road races, particularly the ISDT, where it won multiple individual and team awards.

Sorry the honda 50 was a fourstroke with valves the size of pencil earasers reving to 21000 rpm it made 16 plus hp, thats alot harder than getting 19 from a 2 stroke

In 1960 I switched from road racing bicycles to 50cc motorcycles riding an Itom.  I was still in school but worked in a small motorcycle shop in my spare time that prepared 50cc Moto Decla  racing motorcycles of its own design.  Using my school and the shop machine tools I spent every spare moment modifying and preparing that Itom.  I studied the acoustic theory of how the expansion chambers worked and built my own.  Eventually, based upon racing on track comparison not a dyno, I believe the engine produced about 9 - 11 bhp, depending on setup and characteristics required for certain tracks.  When the Suzuki steamroller came along I couldn't compete, and like most other amateur riders decided to race something else, in my case Austin 7 based 750cc specials.

The FIM banned multi cylinder 50cc bikes because once Honda and Tohatsu dropped out, no one could compete against the works Suzukis and most people could not afford to buy an ex-works bike.  So Suzuki effectively killed 50cc GP racing due to lack of competitive interest.  As the video said, the FIM introduced 50cc racing to create an entry level category that almost anyone could afford, and my efforts support that goal.  Impressive as they were, and damn they were impressive, Suzuki killed the class as a Grand Prix class.  But 50cc racing still exists at the national level, fueled by it's more affordable costs.
