Perry Saturn reveals the TRUE story behind the infamous "Moppy" gimmick and how a backstage punishment became one of the most memorable acts of the Attitude Era.

After a real-life altercation during a televised match (the Mike Bell incident), Vince McMahon decided to punish Perry Saturn with a gimmick designed to embarrass him: falling in love with a mop.
In this exclusive shoot interview, Saturn explains:

The phone call from Vince McMahon assigning the gimmick
Why he decided to embrace the "punishment" rather than quit
The moment he realized "Moppy" was getting more cheers than the top stars
His reaction to the gimmick's tragic end with the woodchipper

This isn't just a funny story—it's a masterclass in professional wrestling psychology and turning a burial into a highlight reel.

Saturn, if we hadn't loved you first, we would have never loved the mop gimmick

He got a mop over....a mop....legend.

Moppy sells better than 90% of modern wrestlers... It's the hair bro .big movement

When I was younger, I thought Perry Saturn was the hardest looking guy since Sid.
They both had the scariest look in terms of looking like they were really tough.

But he got that mop over. I truly believe Perry's one of the only guys that could pull that off. You're a legend Perry!

Mop is not how I rember you. You have a special place in my memory. My daughter passed away a few years ago and when she was 2 she loved you and would get on the coffee table and mimic you how you put your arms up in a circle

Vince Mcmahon is such a petty, insecure bully type. Rich guy with power who gets off on humiliating his "employees". It takes a pretty talented person to turn shit into gold.

20+ years later and we all remember the Moppy storyline. That tells you something.

Raven and Terri never faced criminal charges for what they did to Moppy.

The Moppy angle is the only reason Saturn stood out in the WWF, because it got him on Raw and SmackDown pretty regularly. Other than that he was either on Heat or on the syndicated shows.

You get a mop over you should be first ballot hall of fame.

Now that I am older, I am extremely impressed that you were able to pull this off. I remember this gimmick very much.

I thought the moppy story was over the top and campy but actually really compelling. In that time period wrestlers were doing this superhuman larger than life thing. A story about a wrestler having a head injury seems somehow honest and very human. It worked because of the commitment Saturn has to the role.

this is a testament of how talented Perry Saturn really is. He took a mop and turned it into a legend. That's why he's one of my all time favorite.

I think what was amazing, is how you were able to take a potentially career destroying gimmick and turn it into something memorable. I did not even think a little less of you for having to work with a mop. In fact, the fact that your character loved the mop so much, created stakes for matches. Moppy could be used as a weapon, but it would sacrifice the poor mop, and if it got damage or destroyed in any other way it'd be devastating to your character's emotional state.
Too bad that storyline was so short.
