Mildred made the thumbnail so I knew it'd be good

Not surprised that Mildred was so present for this one, as Ravel was a lifelong cat person. — FWIW, I've always liked John Browning's take on the Left Hand Concerto, with Leinsdorf and the Philharmonia.

Mildred does well at the intro, as well as for her walk-ons. The way things are going, eventually she will be doing the videos and she will be throwing toys for you.

And with the Michelangeli you get a fabulous Rach 4 of all things.

I've discovered that I have the Michelangeli version on an EMI CD issued in 1988 ( original recording 1958 ). I had forgotten about it. Now I'll get it out and listen again.

En effet , les interprétations les plus fabuleuses - de Ravel notamment - et ensuite de beaucoup d' autres - sont celles de Samson François , que l'on ne peut comparer à aucun autre artiste , et qui nous a malheureusement quittés trop tôt !

François-Joel Thiollier’s recording for Naxos was my introduction to the Ravel concerti; I recommend it. They are programmed with the De Falla Nights in the Gardens of Spain.

I went to the stacks and couldn't find the Francois under Ravel, then i remembered: I have these in the Cluytens box! Thanks for the reminder! Love that kitty!

I still have my vinyl copy of the François/Cluytens recording on Angel that I’ve had for some 50 years. Going to hear the Left Hand concerto performed this week in San Francisco (Karina Canellakis conducting, Cédric Tiberghien soloist).

I guess Casadesus/Ormandy wasn't in the running for the left hand concerto because it's mono. I always loved Samson Francois in Ravel, and preferred his full bodied approach to ABM.

Mildred thinks she's a dog!😂 Recording-wise, I dont think anyone has clarified the murky orchestral intro to the L-H Concerto like Boulez, and also Roth and Les Siecles. For the G major, Katchen and Kertesz are fun!
