This time, we'll be thoroughly introducing a gourmet trip around Fukui Station, which is based at the newly opened Hokuriku Shinkansen station, offering incredibly delicious and affordable food experiences that you absolutely must try! This is truly a hidden gem for adults, where we fully enjoyed top-notch, cost-effective cuisine and learned from history!

Fukui Prefecture is a place where rich nature and traditional culture are carefully preserved. It's the least populated prefecture in the Hokuriku region, with a population of approximately 740,000. The current Fukui Prefecture is comprised of the former Echizen and Wakasa provinces. In 1871, the feudal system was abolished and prefectures were established. Afterward, Fukui Prefecture and Tsuruga Prefecture were created, and in 1873 (Meiji 6), they were merged into Tsuruga Prefecture. However, in 1876 (Meiji 9), they were merged again into Ishikawa and Shiga Prefectures, and Fukui and Tsuruga Prefectures ceased to exist. In 1881 (Meiji 14), several regions from Ishikawa and Shiga Prefectures merged to form the current Fukui Prefecture.

Fukui Prefecture boasts numerous attractions, including historical and cultural sites, beloved local cuisine, and traditional crafts showcasing masterful skills. The Sea of ​​Japan and Wakasa Bay, within Fukui Prefecture's waters, contain 58 islands with a circumference of over 0.1 km, all of which are uninhabited.

Around JR Fukui Station, numerous restaurants offering Fukui's representative cuisine, such as Echizen Oroshi Soba, Sauce Katsu Don, and Grilled Saba Sushi, are within walking distance.

Famous restaurants like "Europe-ken Main Store," famous for its Sauce Katsu Don, and "Akiyoshi," a renowned yakitori restaurant and a soul food of Fukui residents, are also within a 10-minute walk.

Other must-try items include Echizen crab, Heshiko (fermented mackerel), sake, and Mizu Yokan (a type of sweet bean jelly).

Access is easy thanks to the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen; it takes approximately 2 hours and 51 minutes from Tokyo by bullet train.

By plane, it takes about 40 minutes from the airport to Fukui Station.
