This is so fascinating! And the idea of space being as important as objects is beautiful.

I was honoured to be one of the guides in the beautiful Portland Japanese Garden for several years when we were “on assignment” there. I learned so much about the various eras of Japanese garden. They are each favourites for different reasons. Now that we are home in SE beautiful British Columbia I strive to emulate the peace and beauty of those Japanese gardens!

The rocks in Japan are simply beautiful.

I went to that moss garden as a young teenager, I still remember it.

Yes what a work of genius … the checkered garden 👏thank you for sharing it ! ❤

I'm currently in my third year of building my own Japanese Wabi-Sabi Garden or "Courtyard".   I'm about to set my stepping stones followed by filling in the main surface areas with pure White Kyanite sand that will be stunning. All in the Middle of central Virginia.

Thank you thank you thank you so much for bringing this to YouTube! I wonder if he ever did one or would ever do one on the Chinese gardens as well cuz I find the history of them fascinating. These are wonderful videos that gives me the opportunity to see so many different gardens and elements of gardens while giving me information in a calm and soothing way so that I can have them on while I do my art therapy or work in my studio in some form. It's difficult to find something with that kind of balance. It's not a walk-through a garden where it's just somebody quiet with music and you have to look up the whole time but it's not overbearing with the information these shows do a very good job at balancing the information and knowledge with the beauty and unique aspects of each garden. Showing off the highlights and parts of each garden that shows the individuality and creativity. Monty has a wonderful way of showing respect to each garden he visits even if it is an abstract take on a garden that may seem a little too far-fetched.

Calm, peaceful and architecturally gorgeous ! Thank you,Monty, for this visual treat. Warmest regards for your health also 💌

This is fascinating...thank you...Sue from Arizona

Beautiful ❤ Thank you 💐

Thank you, Monty! 👌🧡✨️🇨🇦

Japanese dedication to the garden is amazing .. stripping needles.. I thought I was crazy for doing this to my weeping spruce.. I guess I'm not.

Wow Monty on youtube, good luck and thank you. I got one of your books for xmas and I feel like this is just an extension of that gift. Look forward to watching all of your uploads.

When the EARTH speaks, you need to pay attention ❤. Even if she comes to you in the form of a simple stone. 💕

Thank you Monty! You are always a joy to watch ❤

the cherry, Tai Haku was chanced upon by Collingwood Ingram, when he visited the garden of a Mrs. Freeman. The tree was in a moribund condition when he found it, asked for a few twigs of budwood and from that rescue come all the present Tai Haku trees.

Mrs Freeman had ordered a few cherries for her garden, leaving the choice up to the source in Japan. A few unknown varieties arrived and were planted in her garden.

Luckily the variety was not lost.  In Japan, there is thought that the very similar Komatsunagi is the same.

Regardless, the quality and size of the. individual bloom was unique among the cherries of the time,

I had planted this variety at Arlington National Cemetery, at the administration buildings when I gave them 1,100 trees to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Japanese Tea Garden, San Francisco, USA.  The cherry collection there is as assemblage of over three dozen different  varieties as well at the Edo Higan Zakura, which was the main species planted at the Tea Garden.

I LOVE ❤ This video! Thank you Monty, wish more like this.🤗

Glorious.
