I Built a 200-Tree Orchard in 90 Days

Isaac French

My friends, neighbors, and I turned a dusty field into a healthy, thriving orchard. We planted over 50 varieties of fruit trees: apples, peaches, pears, plums, figs, grapes, and more. Plus, built a timber-framed pergola, koi pond, stone pathways, and even added beehives. Incredible transformation!

The hidden gem in this video is the explanation of your special community!! Incredible how you broke this down; I would love to see this kind of behind the scenes planting strategy from so many farm hotels!! Ready for that U pick experience! One idea: most people have never picked fruit straight off a tree and tasted it, so setting up some tours to walk through and be able to grab fruit as you go would be verrrrry cool!

Living the dream! Just imagine all landowners manifesting the potential of their holdings to this degree, the world would be different.

This is literally all I want to do one day. Instead I have to work on things I don't care about outside the money it earns.

“Look, one day I had gone to a little village. An old grandfather of ninety was busy planting an almond tree. ‘What, grandfather!’ I exclaimed. ‘Planting an almond tree?’ And he, bent as he was, turned around and said: ‘My son, I carry on as if I should never die.’ I replied: ‘And I carry on as if I was going to die any minute.’ Which of us was right, boss?” ~ Nikos Kazantzakis - Zorba the Greek.

Wow, thank you for sharing this beautiful story! My favorite part is 15 hands going up saying they're in! This orchard is literally changing lives, families, and a community already in its very beginning! Just like the trees - already flourishing and beautiful so young, but will continue to grow and yield abundance of literal fruit for years to come - so will the compounding impact be of the many kinds of fruit this endeavor will yield over the years for many!

That's really cool, what you've created. I had in mind was, all the pathways would have a canopy of all sorts of fruit and veggies.
I have 20 acres in Central Oregon but the weather will kill most plants.
Well, more power to you. I hope to see improvements on your orchard.

Fantastic summary of your efforts, Isaac! I love, love, love the fact you live in such a collaborative, nurturing community where you can all build something of this scale that can be shared by everyone for generations to come. I hope I can build an orchard similar to this when my wife and I find our forever home!
