During Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States and his meeting with Trump, the White House state dinner featured the performance of "One Day More," a piece from the musical *Les Misérables*, set before the uprising. Was this a political insinuation by the US? Trump specifically took Xi to see historical documents such as the US Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, responding to China's concerns about the "three US-China joint communiqués." What values and strategic bottom lines did the US convey? Xi Jinping again brought up the "Thucydides Trap," to which Trump responded, "Sparta won in the end." How should we interpret the discrepancy in the on-the-spot response and exchange of this historical allusion? Trump delayed a $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan after the May Trump-Xi meeting, claiming it was a good bargaining chip in negotiations with China. This arms sale was not mentioned at all before or after the recent Trump-Xi meeting, and the White House statement regarding the meeting made no mention of Taiwan. Is this a temporary diplomatic concession by the US to China in response to its resource difficulties, such as rare earth shortages, or a sign of strategic wavering? The US and China agreed to extend the trade truce for two months and reached an agreement on non-sensitive goods such as agricultural products, but issues like semiconductors and rare earths remain unresolved. How should we view this new normal of "closed-door negotiations and fighting while simultaneously engaging in trade war"? How should Taiwanese society view China's promotion of "regularizing the Trump-Xi meeting" as joint management of the Taiwan Strait and its dissemination of skepticism towards the US?
