Iran has issued a direct warning to the United States as President Donald Trump weighs the possibility of renewed military action around the November midterm elections. Tehran says its response will not be dictated by America’s political calendar and warns that any new attack could trigger strikes against US interests across the region. Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, said that whether an attack comes before or after the elections, Iranian forces would respond immediately and target American interests “without any restrictions.”  The warning comes as Washington maintains a substantial military presence in the region. Trump has publicly floated intensified action against Iran after the midterms while leaving open the possibility of earlier action, and the US is deploying additional forces and another aircraft carrier to the Middle East. Tehran’s message is that another confrontation could put American interests across the region at risk.
