June’s read, A Naked Singularity, turned out to be one of my favorite reads ever. I probably wouldn’t have even heard of that book without the club.

About books from the 1800s. I was commenting to my lit teacher mother about the fact that a lot these meander and often have a slow pace, really describing surroundings and setting the scene and mood. She told me something really interesting and framework setting. She told me that a lot of these were originally written as serials, so they would come out in chunks in periodicals. [If/where that is true] it makes a lot of sense why they take their time. Back in those days you didn’t have tv shows with the next episode to wait for. But you waited for your next installment of Far From the Madding Crowd.

Stumbled across your great channel yesterday and have watched several videos already. Just wanted to say it's great ! am an avid reader but often struggle to make choices as so many book options out there. You provide that clarity with honest critique and reflection. Thanks again from me in the UK. I'm off to Middle East on Tuesday for 2 months and some of your great recommendations will accompany me on my travels. Stay safe and please keep the videos coming.

Vollmannia really spread through the book club this year, hopefully it spreads wider 🙏

Your comments about book covers, fonts, formatting et cetera are appreciated.. I too notice these things AND make judgments about books because of them!  I'm apparently pretty well read (surprise, surprise), up to about the 80s, and can tick off many recommended titles, books that I read decades ago. I've suscribed to this channel because 1) (see above) and 2) our (sorry, I don'T know your name) reading interests seem aligned.

Thank you for this recap, we are building out a library for our public library turned boutique hotel and videos like this are such great resources!

I could listen to you talk about books all day. Thank you.

Read Invisible Man on my own in 2025, it’s incredible! So glad you read it. I might have to jump in your club!

oh no, my tbr is growing

Thanks Tony for introducing all of these books - they were all worthwhile in their own specific ways

Thanks for the rankings. I am really looking forward to reading Europe Central.

I might need to join the book club for 100 Years of Solitude. I’ve been thinking of rereading that lately. I’ll definitely look up Ulitskaya, Gass, and Vollmann.

Invisible Man was such a great book, incredibly underrated IMO, definitely going on my reread list!

I just joined the bookclub!!!  This is THE best book Youtube channel.  Thank you.  From Westport MA.

Look forward to podcast on William T Vollmann. Every year my pick for Nobel.

Great video!🎉
Invisible Man was on my list of favorites last year; thank you for using the word "absurdist"-- now I feel like I have a word to describe how the first few pages felt!!

Love so much your amazing takes and dedication to literature. Humbly suggest “Hourglass,” a post-war Serbian novel by the master Danilo Kiš.

So grateful to have found your channel. I look forward to following you.

I really like Zweig's novellas from NYRB. Chess Story, Confusion, and Journey into the Past are all great

The book Club is great, highly recommended. I haven’t read all, but for now Melancholy of resistance is my fave. Looking forward to reading europe central.
