As someone who was born and raised and Fort Myers, I can tell you that a lot of local residents in the city and local rural area of Buckingham are not very happy with the Babcock Ranch developers, because they tried to take over and demolish the Lee Civic Center, a center for rural activities, and turn it into a "mega-resort".

Florida residents are fighting these Data Centers the residents do not want them here

Great macro breakdown of where the investment capital is flowing! However, as a Central Florida local, I noticed a couple of major blind spots in that data section—especially for a Central Florida creator. You completely missed Osceola County and NeoCity. Between the massive advanced semiconductor packaging shifts and the global tech expansions landing there right now, Osceola is a huge piece of this infrastructure story.
More importantly, the video glazes over the serious resource and infrastructure detriments coming with this boom. We're talking about massive baseline energy loads and millions of gallons of daily water use drawing from Florida's already struggling freshwater aquifers. While current statistics don't fully show the damage yet, and the state just had to pass a new law (SB 484) to legally block Big Tech from passing these massive grid and water-loop costs onto residential ratepayers, the long-term strain on our environment is a massive missing chapter here.
On top of the utility impact, nobody is talking about ground-level road infrastructure. Right down the road from me, developers are dropping in a massive multi-hundred-unit complex, yet the entry relies on a minor, partial-lane turn-off from an already congested path. If local counties and utilities don’t start forcing adequate lane widening and utility guardrails before these massive influxes hit, the reality for everyday residents is going to be absolute gridlock and drained resources. Would love to see a follow-up video diving into the local bottleneck reality!

Wow, we need the data centers that will raise our electricity prices because they don't pay the whole cost, we do.  Screw all this growth.  The thing I support is protection the environment...period.

It’s a shame. It’s a shame that all of the locals have no say or control and get to watch their home get destroyed just like they destroyed California and then they will leave and run away from it just as fast.

I've lived in Florida since the 70s.  All this development isn't a benefit.  I wish people could have seen the Florida I saw when I was a kid.  It was much better back then.

Lagoons for swimming? Yes, the alligators will love them.

“Billions in development” does not automatically mean better lives for Floridians.

Who gets the contracts? Who gets the tax breaks? Who pays for the roads, power, water, and infrastructure? What happens to insurance, traffic, utilities, housing costs, and local control?

A hyperscale data center can inflate land values while consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water. Luxury towers can enrich developers while pricing working families out. Publicly supported infrastructure can create private profits while taxpayers absorb the risk.

So before calling this an “economic boom,” show the public cost, the subsidies, the wages created, and who actually benefits.

Economic development is not the same thing as developer enrichment.

Please let us keep DATA CENTERS OUT! BAN THEM!

Better roads, bridges and airports allow us to bring in more people more quickly to our ever expanding concrete, metal, glass and man made chlorinated\salt lagoons.

The only way anyone will make any money out of these nightmares, is to buy the land in the way of these developments and then hold them ransom until they pay you or lease the property from you. (They will NEVER lease your land, they will either buy it from you, sue you, or use the eminent domain to steal your land with some strange excuse that it benefits the public.) I'm currently dealing with 14 eminent domain lawsuits, and it is in favor of the government and big business, not the person who owns the land! They steal your land, and eventually pay you, years later for less than what it was worth, when they stole it from you, not for the value when they actually get around to paying you!!! (Sorry for leaving so many comments, but this info hits home with me and my family! And yes, I'm a Floridian who has lived here over 50 years!)

When the Orlando to Tampa Brightline corridor is finished .The Lakeland station needs a hotel with mixed used commercial ;and a hospital right next to it . This would boost up the Lakeland area a lot .

Talk to people who live near data centers.

This was a really interesting perspective. Most people judge Florida's real estate market by home prices alone, but infrastructure is often what shapes demand over the long run. Projects like airports, rail, ports, and major employment hubs can completely change an area's trajectory over the next decade. It'll be interesting to see which of these investments actually translate into sustainable growth versus just creating short-term real estate hype.
