So the magnets that are over by the buttons are for the sleep cover and not for the stylist. The stylist is supposed to be on the side of the kobo.

Probably a niche issue but the only reason I bought my Kobo was for the buttons. As a new mom, my baby is in the phase where she’s super interested in anything I’m holding. She kept touching my paperwhite screen, changing the pages. It was driving me insane having to flip back and forth to find where I was. The kobo buttons have made that a complete non issue and is worth every single penny😅

As someone who enjoys tech reviews a lot, I deeply appreciate the level of detail and tidbits you add about the features the kobo has + the reminder in the end to not “idolize” Rakuten compared to Amazon. Honestly this is one of my favorite review videos ever about tech you’ve considered almost everything I can ever think of + more !  If you ever do any more reviews about tech you’re interested in I will happily tune in.

Also the Kobo Libra Colour has notebooks in the device hence another reason of price. So it’s not just a e-reader it can be a mini notepad /notebook

Hey! Just to provide a perspective that not a lot of people seem to be considering; the kobo libra can also be a great divice for jurnaling even if you dont anotate in your books.  There have been a lot of people with the Kobo Libra who have mentioned that they frequently use the notes section to keep a jurnal or diary. So if you're a person who has always wanted to get into jurnaling but you never kept up with it, maybe that would be great for you. I personally have found that having a small, lightweight, water proof divice with a backlight that i alredy carry around with me everyday for work and school, has been the one think thats kept me consistent with my jurnaling. Its so much easier to remember ro write when i alredy have it with me and i can use it comfortably in damn near any circumstance.

3:10 Not entirely true, its an extra $70 for the buttons, stylus support AND an extra inch of screen real-estate, which is arguably the most important part.

do i already own a kobo libra color? yes. am i still going to watch the whole vid? yep lmao <3
i completely agree with you about the stylus. it should 100% charge when attached to the device! i loved your discussion at the end btw
i also wanted to add that you can adjust the warmth by tapping sun and moon icons next to the slider! it makes it easier since it doesn’t give you full range.

I admit while i purchased this for my general reading and travel with, i got this specific one because no only can i attach it to my library but I can also annotate books, specifically Cookbooks! When you download a cookbook and use it for general recipes and make a change, you either have to remember the change, or write the recipe down. When i saw this could make notes IN THE BOOK i was over happy! Now when im baking or making dinner and i make a change i can note it so i can repeat my previous endeavor! So while i may not make notes in my regular books, cookbooks notes are a god send.

This might be a niche issue, but the reason I'm looking at this isn't the color, it isn't the annotation or stylus. It's all about comfort. My Kindle basic can be put in landscape mode, but only one way. I'm right handed. I want to hold it in my right hand, but then the words are upside down and there is no way to flip it. That's it. That one lack of ability makes me put my Kindle down and go grab a physical book. I'm never going to regularly use it because it's not comfortable to hold.

I also work in product and this is my favorite tech review on YouTube. The specific example you gave with the stylus unintentionally turning pages and the weak hold of the magnet was exactly the type of thing I want to see in any device review. Your team at work is lucky to have you ‼️

A Kobo Libra Colour 2? I think we're 6-12 months away from that. I'm quite excited for it because Kobo will no doubt have learned a lot from the Libra Colour. Just a small correction - the Kobo Clara Colour has a smaller screen, 6" as opposed to 7". it also has half the storage. So the larger screen, buttons and extra storage are going to be well worth the extra money to some people.

A tiny note on the "price comparison" section, the basic Clara models are also a smaller screen than the Libra models (6" and 7" respectively iirc), so it's not just the stylus compatibility and buttons that bump up the price, and the screen itself is the priciest part of any e-ink device. so comparing the Libras to other 7" e-readers would make more sense and fwiw they are pretty comparable to how 7" devices are priced across the market. *Edit: same deal for the Scribe, it's nominally targeting the same market share as the Libras, but it's a 10" screen so they are in practice entirely different devices, and the much larger screen pushes the price of the Scribe higher. In general, different size screens determine what segment of the market a device is targeted at and largely determine the price point they come at, e.g. manga readers will not look to buy something less than a 7" device, university students probably won't be looking at anything smaller than the 10" screen for note-taking, etc. Screen size = niche, basically.

I love my kobo libra colour, though I don’t annotate that much. I don’t have the stylus either. The buttons and the colour feature are a what made me buy it and I'm so glad I did.  Also kindle just is a no go for me as I own all my e pubs and the library compatibility is only available with kobo in the UK. I also recommend using calibre to adjust covers, organise epubs etc. how you like.

Girl you must write really sick PRDs. Thank you so much for this review 😭

A few things that is also I would like to add: The buttons are great for those of us who struggle holding the ereader comfortablly. I didn't get the stylus right away because I wanted to see if I would enjoy the ereader in general as this was my first, and even without the stylus it was worth it because I have trouble gripping sometimes when there isn't a huge thing to hold onto (weak hands), Yes, I could have gotten the origonal Libra, but I also wanted the color for me being a manga and graphic novel reader and some of the Manga I have have colored pages at the beginning of it. Kindle used to have a version with buttons (but no stylus capabilities) but they discontinued it for whatever reason and a lot of people who loved their Oasis were furious for it, and so a lot o them actually switched to the Kobo Libra Colour for that reason as well. Also another thing that I would argue pricing wise that Kindles force you to pay 20 bucks to get rid of ads now which also ads to the price of most of their newer models, so again Kobo isn't reasonable in comparison, But I would also argue the Bigme reader and even Boox Palma are more reasonable than even the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Paperwhite as they also don't force you with ads where you have to pay 20 bucks more to get rid of them. Also Kobo overall have better library/Overdrive intergration than Kindle does even in the US (though the US is the only one that does it for the Kindle and even then it's absolutely clunky as the overdrive intergration isn't on the device itself. Having used the Kindle app on my computer and phone for so long and used the library through it had me never wanting to check out a book through Libby because I literally had to click "send to kindle" on the libby website, while you can just directly do it through the kobo ereader automatically and be happy even with the waitlist.)

>_> This is me doing literally 3 months of reserach even before I got the Kobo and trying the ereaders in brick and morter of the Nook Glow 4 and the new models of kindles.... I ended up liking the Nook Gow 4 more than any of the kindles and they had buttons on the edges but it was not comfy in my hands to use them or even experience the reading. The Kobo ended up being the best fit for my hands personally. I would have been fine if the Libra Colour didn't have stylus abilities, I got it specificly for the buttons and the way it held more plus the color. I also got it for the lightness because omg, I hated reading off my ipad pro 12 inch and my eyes hurt reading from my phone, my tablet, and my computer for verious reasons. I also really liked the fact that it's super easy to change the warmth through the little drop down menu, easier than you can on the Kindle from what I've seen. I looked for the ereader that all my needs than just a few lol.

The screen on the libra is an inch bigger than the clara. That’s probably also a reason for the bigger price. Plus it has double amount of memoryspace 32 gb instead of 16.

👏👏👏👏 Yes. Chef's kiss. This was such a thorough and well thought out review. I have watched so many Kobo reviews and this is by far the best. The in-depth stylus review was so helpful. I think you gave a great breakdown of Kobo/Rakuten as well. Lots of the other reviews seem to miss this point.

A lot of your issues with the screen turning on and losing the pen would be solved by using the Kobo Notebook Cover, which has a slot for the pen. The collection showing on the Home Screen is the one that you last opened  it. I really like the Home Screen. I use the top row extra spaces to show the next books I want to read (opening them and closing them with bring them up). It's so much nicer than the Kindle Home Screen, which tries to market you books at you!

THISSSS is the kind of info I needed to determine wether or not to upgrade from my kobo libra 2 (I probably won’t lmao), thanks for the detailed review babe <3
