Hey! Thanks so much for reading my book :)

I like the appearance of gas lanterns because the entire plot is just gaslighting

Coming back here after CC put out their video today on the original Reddit post.

how he can read this banquet of horror so casually and with great interest but then the jeff the killer image is too haunting /j

Calling the family Faust is a "i know writers who use subtext and theyre all cowards" moment

I really wonder if Thomas is one of the people who has been in the old house a long time, lost his humanity and became a malicious entity, and is driven by a need to reconstruct his family from his own reality but its been so long he just takes whatever strays from whatever realities he can

I'm only about halfway through the video but when Thomas and Paige get mad about the dog biting their kid, I'm like "why are you still in this lady's house???" I think my indignity is preventing me from being affected by anything creepy going on lol

Honestly this feels like a horror story from the perspective of a Sims character. The alternative dimensions are separate save files, and the characters are presets or saved Sims that are being edited, deleted and placed in New Games. Eve was a character from Save Game 2, but Paige is from Game 3, the two boys from Game 4, and Jenny from Game 5 all copy and pasted into Game 6. Thomas is unique in that he's the player's main character; that's why he's so special and seems to alternate between sympathetic/evil. He's an NPC until the Sims start altering the game against the Player's wishes, where the Player takes control through Thomas to correct the natural order.

Oh wow a nice story about a lesbian couple for pride month, I’m sure nothing bad will happen

So when Eve saw the glinting eyes in the wardrobe, she was probably looking at her future self from Alison’s perspective when she was hiding. This means her past self was looking for young-Alison (Jenny) at the same time her future self hid from Alison

Because of the instances where Thomas freezes and his mask "breaks," I theorize that Thomas was once just a normal person, and has either been in the Old House long enough to be changed, or has become possessed by something "other." Old House and Backrooms both borrow from old fae legends about how you lose time and yourself when you're no longer in your own realm or reality. Even Spirited Away explores this to a lesser degree. You cross a boundary, your name gets taken, and you can only get back if you reclaim what you lost. It could be that what Thomas lost was this very specific family, and he believes that recreating it perfectly will let him get back to his actual reality.

25:59 invasive species symbolism: the family shouldn’t be there and are causing harm to those who belong?

Jenny also loves to play hide and seek and Allison keeps playing “hide and seek” with Eve.

I like that on this channel I can find videos that say “I’m trying to get 100k subs” and “I’m trying to get 1 thousand subs” both by the end of 2025

i’m gonna need a sequel where charlie meets someone who understands the old house and they rescue eve

This entire book reminded me of a magnus archives ep where a vase erases thing it take inside of it and end up taking the mains guy boyfriend and erasing him from reality and only the main character remembers him. Love horror entities that gaslighting gay people

''the only known photo of eve palmer'' at the end OH MY GOD MY JAW DROPPED. HOLY SHIIIIIT

I'm halfway through the video (when the old man tell her she needs to make the people in the house leave) and so far this feels like an anxiety inducing dream where I would be really scared the whole time but then wake up and realise that even though the atmosphere was always  menacing and tense nothing actually happened to me in my dream nor was there ever a clear threat.

if they ever make this into a movie, they GOTTA get ari aster to direct. i feel like he’d nail the vibe of slowly going insane, and all the subtle hints as to what might be going on.

I feel like that chandelier mentioned very early on has to mean something. Thomas mentions both the chandelier and the stained glass window specifically as oddities or changes made to the house, but only one of them comes back up.

Also, that "circle with lines through it" Allison was drawing everywhere were likely her leaving breadcrumbs. Ways for her to know which reality she ended up in. Is the circle on the fireplace? I'm in this reality. Is it on the windowsill? Then I'm in this one.
