History Dose

Our interview with Andy Bostinto, the world's oldest bodybuilder and WW2 veteran who fought in the European theater in 1945. Along the way, he captures Germans, liberates camps, and makes contact with Russian troops. His illustrious life involves the Great Depression, friendships with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Patrick Stewart, and much more.

This interview was a collaboration between History Dose and ‪@MemoirsofWWII‬. A special thanks to Tom from ‪@ThePsychologyOfStrength‬ podcast for helping to coordinate and plan this interview with Andy. Andrew Biggio of The Rifle (‪@itamvets‬) was also very helpful in helping me reconstruct Andy's war experiences. Please follow all of them!

His memories, his mind still so so fresh is impressive for that age. That is amazing and refreshing and he kept his humor throughout it all, which is also amazing. These type of people were built different back then. Huge huge huge respect to go to war and face hell and return.

I work at the National Museum of the Pacific war. This last Memorial Day we had a beautiful ceremony to commemorate our veterans…and it hit me like a freight train. I’ve been a nerd for military history since before I was a teenager, and WW2 vets are my catalyst to pursue this passion into work. This Memorial Day at the museum…there were no WW2 vets. There were two Korean War vets, many Vietnam vets, and several from the Gulf war and Operation Iraqi Freedom…none from WW2. This part of our living history is fading away, and it’s heartbreaking how fast the pace is.

Bless y’all for doing this, and for saving the stories of such an incredible person!! My Papa served in both the European and pacific theatre’s, and he passed away a few years ago at the age of 98. His name was Robert Holmes, served in the 86th Div US Army, and he’s my statue of Zeus.

Cherish these stories if you’re fortunate enough to still have someone who lives through this time. History is a powerful thing, but it needs the voice of future generations to keep it alive

Thank you, Andy. My grandfather was in the Navy during WWII. He was born in 1926. I wish we could call you and your generation more than just the greatest generation. God bless you and your family!

I graduated from highschool in 2002 right after 9/11 with the plans of joining the Military. Both of my Grandfathers fought in WW2 and begged me not to join, all they would say was I fought enough for both of us. Both Grandfather's said the same thing and that has always stuck with me for some reason.
