"Lumiose. It really is a town full of jerks, isn't it?"

Thats just Paris, Arlo.

"Legends ZA isn't a AAA game, and it isn't trying to be a AAA game."

But it sure is priced like one!

I think people would be a bit kinder to this game if it wasn't $70 plus $30 DLC. People forgave pokemon's shortcomings back in the day because they cost $40 each. If you're going to charge full price for a game people will have higher expectations.

"The potential for the future". Bro. I'm running out of future.

Arlo you have to start using timestamp categories in videos. It would make the viewing experience so much better

The whole being a slave to debt and the debtors who have enslaved you being the good guy heroes is absolutely bizarre in a way that feels like it came from a Yakuza game.

Arlo has an hour of thoughts upon being made to endure being in France

If it’s not trying to be a AAA game then Nintendo should have not put a triple A price tag on it. I think this is the prime issue. Like you said if they decided to brand this like a mid size game with some polish and right priced it it would have went a long way into its reception.

What if your city just decided to replace the park on your street with 5 lions

On the combat, it really NEEDS abilities. Without them, megas just aren't as special as they should be. Like, what's the point of mega Kangaskhan without parental bond? Mega Pinsir needs aerilate to take advantage of its flying typing, etc.

the title is a statement and the video length is the proof

I don’t play pokemon specifically but I wish more games that lack voice acting elected to use a dragon quest esque “bbbbbbbbbb” (idk how to describe the onomatopoeia) little text noise with pitch variations depending on age/gender/etc as text boxes fill to simulate a voice of some sort. Personally I feel like that fills in the gaps of voice acting just as strongly as if it were fully included a lot of the time- and games like undertale have proven it resonates and leaves impressions on people

What hurt this game for me is that I played digimon time stranger first and seeing the presentation of that game vs this really hurt za for me. Every digimon in that game not only had dedicated animations but individual voice lines to. And while time stranger had smaller biome like areas, they were all visually interesting and packed to the brim with different animated digimon and humans making it feel more lived in. I feel like this time around digimon won in terms of evolution in its game series.

“Pokemon Legends ZA is not a triple A game and it’s not trying to be” then why the fck is it charging triple A prices!?

It’s not trying to be a AAA game? The price definitely says it is Arlo

Arlo has A-Z to say about Z-A.

11:11 "Lida is a dancer, but that fact essentially never leads to anything more than her battle intro animation." Hey, exactly like Tierno! It's like they gaslit themselves into thinking a Pokemon game could give enough time to its characters to make the whole squad/ensemble cast thing X & Y did work.

its not really a city, its a maze with city jpegs. the only buildings you can enter are story related

Honestly I was ok with the "game takes place in only 1 city" thing at first, but it became the biggest issue for me.  They just don't utilize it very well with the wild zones just being some city streets and a couple parks and the pokemon theming for the areas is mid.  Like Yakuza games take place in just one town but there are defining features of that town that can also turn into "dungeon" areas and still feel interesting.  Like we have the sewers but why can't we also have a abandoned factory to explore?  A full power plant? A haunted apartment complex?  Heck make one of the mall areas get taken over by a wild zone and make the whole "people are made about the wild zones" actually feel like a bad thing for the player too. A single city can work as the setting but it needs more character to carry a whole game on its back.

Edit: Also anyone who says that "people aren't happy about the wild zones and ZA tournament" is a good plot point is coping because it gets like 3 scenes and nothing of consequence is done with it.  Should have had the Hotel Z get turned into a battle zone one night and you have to fight to protect it, the hotel gets heavily damaged, and that leads into the whole Yakuza moneylending scheme arc.
