"The Island's Red Daruma"...the "master" lurking in the deepest reaches of the jungle.
It's been 20 years since I was struck with awe by that photograph.
During those 20 years, I continued to fish for countless meter-long giant fish (monster fish), sometimes walking across the Arctic ice fields at -20°C, and even venturing to depths of 2500m in the ocean with my reel...
"Unknown," "new species," "world records"...the "simplicity" demanded by television.
After continuously meeting those expectations, I reached the point where I was told, "Please challenge yourself to catch the fish you most want to catch, Mr. Kozuka."
My destination is the remotest part of Kalimantan Island, the uninhabited area at the source of the Mahakam River.
"Whether it's 'interesting for television' is irrelevant...a journey where you can 'predict' things like that is nothing more than this!"
Kozuka, having gained his freedom, begins his true journey.
---This is the original filming and editing video of the fishing trip broadcast on TBS's "Crazy Journey" on March 2, 2026. In addition to the program's cameraman, a dedicated Monster Kiss cameraman accompanied the group, handling filming and editing.
Please enjoy the realities of the trip—including the gory and bizarre parts—that couldn't be broadcast on terrestrial television during prime time (?). See "what's beyond terrestrial television."
