Rishab pant if he continued the play he has played in those 44 matches , he will be the best wk-batter

The fact that we are not talking about Pant's wicket keeping shows that it was more that decent. If he made a lot of mistake we would certainly be talking about it. As you guys say it is difficult to compare the eras, none of the pre 1985 wicket keepers would make to the side in modern day. Pa t has shown in India that he can keep to both fast and spin bowling.

Rishabh Pant is already the best WK batsman in ICT history. Hoping the future is bright for him

I think Shahid Afridi's probably the closest in terms of vibes based hitting that Pant has, or maybe Sidhu against spin in the 90's. Pant is obviously far more consistent than either of those

There may be an argument to just relieve Pant of his wicket keeping duties and play him as a proper batter.

Pant wins matches where he scores 80-90s

Interesting discussion at the end there. Because wicketkeeping is such a specialized skill and batting historically seen as a Plus, in an all time 11 whether for India or the world you would have to look at how much batting you are getting from your 6 7 and 8 which can be a mix of allrounders and keeper batter. In this case Pant would likely miss out due to the preponderance of allrounders available for selection for both India and world best 11s

I think the importance of wicketkeeping was huge in the past because making runs was tough in that time and if you gave up 20 runs as byes in an innings thats 10 percent of the team score. So the wicketkeepers were specialists and had to excel in that domain. Nowadays if you let 20 runs added to byes but hit a century, how does it matter? And also, far more atheletic fielders covering the ground makes up for more than what a not-so-good wicketkeeping would lose.

Great podcast. A question here is quite tongue in cheek, if Joe Root's worst dismissal was advancing down the track and hitting in the air with a fielder placed, rather than the scoop then doesn't it make Gavaskar's point correct because the shot he called stupid stupid was a pull shot with a fielder on boundary while trying to save the game unlike a non traditional shot, Pant got out in that series scooping to fine leg which went to the third as well but that was not Stupid shot. Also, Behram, you need to pronounce Gavaskar like Babar Azam, not the way they pronounce Babar Azam.
