The Rules of Footsies

Many guides on fighting game footsies focus excessively on specific scenarios instead of more general rules about how to play the neutral game. In this video I break it down into simple rules you can use to beat opponents.

You can read more tutorials like this here: https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Category...
If you didn't understand any of the terms in the video, check this glossary: https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Help:Glo...

Rule 3: Feint overhead and grab

B-But I thought fighting games were all about fancy combos that did no damage.

This was a great refresher. Playing fighting games for years, I tend to sometimes think I know everything. This video was a great reminder that you can learn or relearn anything

This is my bane. Because in fighting games I always get so caught up in styling that I forget the basics. So seeing it laid out like this...I appreciate this video.

Thanks for the video! My footsies game feels alright, but a lot of this video really emphasizes what I need to think about when playing.

"Attacking extends your hurtbox, thus your limb can be hit if it misses, even by short range normals"

I think I will share this everytime I hear someone whine about spamming. 😀

Thanks for the refresher. Even a 35 year ol' dude like me could ALWAYS go back to the basics! Thanks for that!

Well, I see my problem now. Too much dash and throw and not so much variety in the approach and defense.
Thanks dude, this video is gold.

the best way to figure out a fighting game is to understand the sauce

I had the most hellish of a time with Dragon: a Bruce Lee Story until I tried to figure out what was the best move for a given range. But once I started using punches in close I started realizing I could in fact defeat the starting sailor, who a friend of mine has joked about needing 64 player multiplayer just to beat. It was like night and day being able to beat him reliably after that, along with everyone else in the game.

Now I can execute the dreaded footsie spam!

For real tho your neutral triangles define the terms better than I've seen. Very well done.

Mmmm nice. Needed some education on fight games even tho I played fighting games alot. Need to understand more. Always learn before going on a tournament.

Awesome video and although i been playing fighting games for a long time its always good to hear things you've learned along the way and things I need to get better with 😂 .. I tend to rush my opponent and overwhelm them with different attacks while looking for an opening .. I will definitely keep these tips in mind when competing in my next video 😀 keep up the great work 👍🏿🔥🔥
