Thank the Lord Jesus Christ for delivering me from the Nicotine-addictive cigarette habit the Friday after Thanksgiving in 1979! I had started smoking those coffin nails in 1965 when I was a teen!
Desi Arnaz and many other actors died from the effects of smoking. Many of the top shows during the Golden Age of television were sponsored by cigarette companies. Reader's Digest is credited with breaking the story, in the 1950s, that cigarettes caused cancer. The cigarette companies and their friends in Congress, as well as the TV networks, and Hollywood stars continued to earn a good living from selling cigarettes. It wasn't until 1964 that the US Surgeon General publicly concluded that cigarette smoking caused cancer. The industry denied that and fought back tooth and nail. Cigarette advertising wasn't banned on TV in 1974 IIRC. Mad Men has a story arc that accurately portrays what was happening in the advertising and TV industry as cigarttes became less and less tenable as a commercial product.
Chesterfield leave no unpleasant aftertaste. Boloney! When I smoked Chesterfield King unfiltered it tasted like I licked a dirty ashtray. It motivated me to quit smoking for good. 34 years smoke free and I'm so glad that I did!
