This video focuses on Mount Karamatsu, a famous peak in the Northern Alps and one of Japan's 300 most famous mountains.
It is a 2,696m mountain that straddles Hakuba Village in Nagano Prefecture and Kurobe City in Toyama Prefecture.
In the Northern Alps, where Mount Karamatsu is located, snow finally melts in July.
Then, when snow begins to fall in mid-October, the mountains quickly become buried in a harsh winter.
Even the harsh Northern Alps, closed off by snow for over eight and a half months, experience a brief autumn.
This video will show you what Mount Karamatsu looks like during this brief autumn.
Mount Karamatsu is an extremely popular mountain, known as an introduction to the Northern Alps.
On this day, the wind grew stronger as we ascended, and light rain joined the strong winds near the summit.
Even this introductory mountain can reveal its harsh Northern Alps face when the weather worsens.
Don't underestimate it just because it's an introductory mountain!
However, the relatively easy climb is only possible in good weather.
[About Mt. Karamatsu]
🏔️The Introduction Mountain for the Northern Alps🏔️
It's often featured in guidebooks as an introduction to the Northern Alps.
🚠Easy Access🚠
The main reason it's called an introduction mountain is that it's easier to get to the summit than other mountains in the Northern Alps.
[Gondola/Lift]
By taking the gondola lift at Happo-One Ski Resort and two other lifts, you can reach an altitude of approximately 1,830m, where Happoike Sanso Lodge is located.
The elevation difference to the summit (approximately 870m) is small, making it less physically demanding than other mountains in the Northern Alps. ☺
[Well-maintained Hiking Trails]
● Happo-one Course
The Happo-one Course, a major hiking route, features well-maintained boardwalks and is easy to walk on. It lacks dangerous chain sections and ladders, making it a relatively safe hike even for beginners.
✨Spectacular Viewpoints✨
● Summit
This mountain is like an observation deck, offering a panoramic view of the Northern Alps.
● Happo-ike Pond:
On the way to the summit, Happo-ike Pond is a famous reflection spot where, on calm, windless days, the majestic Hakuba Sanzan (Mt. Hakuba, Mt. Shakushi, and Mt. Hakuba-Yari) are reflected on the water's surface.
Many people take photos and post them on social media, so you'll want to take one yourself.
However, it's not recommended in strong winds, so you'll need some luck. ☺
