The most useful, instructive and practical portraiture tutorial I’ve seen by far,  and there have been many. Jon Davies should be much better known.

One of the very best teachers so far, one who pinpoints the parts we tend to overlook.

I usually don’t leave comments but I had to on this.  Literally I have saved so much money by not going to art school by just watching this video.  He explains things so much better.

Oh to have the chance of a live lesson from this man , so expressive and not too full of himself, i bet his lessons were/are a blast. Can't find him on internet, so sad.

The current obsession with hyper-realism is tiresome. This tutorial and this approach to portrait painting is very refreshing and Jon Davies is clearly a genuine Master.  He can do more with a few strokes than a hyperrealist does with several thousand.

Thank you!  My entire idea of portraits has totally changed.

I often find that when I'm drawing a portrait I often get to a phase in the drawing when it just looks ugly, years ago that was when I gave up and tried again but I found that pushing past that ugly phase my compositions more often than not come together and I end up with a finished piece I am proud of.

Never thought pastels can be this great.
