I Designed and Sewed This Jacket From Scratch – Full Build Process

This is one of my favourite jackets I've ever made, and in this tutorial I take you through the whole build, from cut panels to the last topstitch: a boxy, clean, fully lined hooded jacket. I made this one in blue denim with a very simple lining to show how easy it really is, and yes, you can make it on a home sewing machine.

What I cover:
✂️ Cutting outer and lining panels, mirroring pieces and following the grain lines
🧵 The three-piece hood, which gives you that curved top instead of a hoodie seam
🧷 Eyelets in the hood, then threading the drawcord through the toggles and stitching it in place
🪡 Front panels and my pocket setup: a bigger welt and a little cargo pocket with an aluminium clip
📐 Building the outer shell and the lining
🧥 Attaching the sleeves
⚙️ The cinch cord at the hem
🤐 Pressing half-inch folds and installing the zip
✨ Final topstitching and finishing touches

The details:
🧵 Pattern: Origin Hooded Jacket
🪡 Fabric I used: blue denim, with a simple lining
📦 The pattern includes a tools and materials page, including the hardware: an open-ended zip, elastic cord (I used paracord), cord stoppers and eyelets
⏱️ It took me around six hours. Give yourself a couple of days on and off.

This is so cool man! Ive always been intimidated to use my sewing machine cuz i watched a couple tutorials and it seemed very complicated, but this step by step guide really helped me understand the basics and make this awesome jacket

Why are you selling a pattern for TWENTY POUNDS that has no notches to match pattern pieces? That's why you ended up with all those uneven edges that you had to trim. Did you walk the seam lines and then true them? These are pattern making basics.

Also: people need to be aware that they MUST add interfacing to the area where the eyelet hardware was placed. You stamped it through one layer of fabric, and it will tear out over time.
