I am from the US and have been to Whitby 4 times in the last 25 years.  It is my favorite place in the UK.  It is so beautiful  there, especially the Abbey.  My favorite place to eat is The Magpie Cafe.  Love this video!

Halloween is always a good shout for Whitby. It's gone a bit more towards the comic book end of steam punk these days but it used to be all witches and vampires & scary things like that. Last time i went there was an amazing Hellboy cosplayer at the bottom of the stairs, loving life.

My favourite town in the whole country. I'm in the south, so don't get there as much as I would like.

For day trippers, use the Park and Ride. Battling into the town and finding a place to park is a pig and generally more expensive than the P&R.

We live just a little further up the coast near Saltburn, so you are in our 'playground' we have spent hours with the kids in all these places 😊 I think we are so used to it it's nice to see it all through someone else's eyes ❤  It's been strange the last few summers seeing the rest of the country in 'heatwave' mode, while this area generally stays cooler. One day in July watching the UK weather they were saying '34 decreesC' all over the country! ......lol it was 17 here and I needed a jumper. X

I holidayed in Whitby every year as a child. (I'm now 62). My Aunt owned a restaurant and cafe on Church Street.

Well you've picked the right spot to holiday in as is a nice quiet town, but the bonus is the stunning countryside all around you. Then when you get back at night you can sleep as no noisy shows or people playing loud music. You have the whole of the North York moors, The Yorkshire dales and the stunning Yorkshire coast all in a days drive and if you want real noise and excitement Scarborough is 30 mins down the road. Trust me I know as was born there so know the whole area very well as toured it a child many times on my bike. Don't eat at the Magpie.its good food yes, but so is the price, go over the bridge and try   the chippy on the left its good and if you want to sit down the around the corner on the left again is Mr Chips. If you take the 174 west you can visit Runswick Bay, Staithes and Saltburn all good spots to look at.

Whitby, a seaside town in North Yorkshire, England, is one of the most famous real-world locations associated with Dracula.

Here's why Whitby is so closely linked to Dracula:
• Bram Stoker visited Whitby in 1890. During his stay, he was inspired by the dramatic scenery, the ruined Whitby Abbey, and the town's history and folklore. He even used the local library to research legends and historical figures.

• Dracula arrives in England at Whitby. In the novel, Count Dracula's ship, the Demeter, runs aground in Whitby after its crew mysteriously disappears. Dracula escapes the wreck by transforming into a large black dog and running ashore.

• Whitby Abbey provides the Gothic backdrop. The imposing ruins of the abbey overlooking the town create the eerie atmosphere that became central to the novel. The nearby 199 Steps leading up to the abbey are also mentioned in the story.

• The name "Dracula" was discovered there. While researching in Whitby, Stoker found the name "Dracula" in a history book. He replaced his original name for the vampire ("Count Wampyr") with "Dracula," after learning it was associated with the historical Vlad III Dracula, although the fictional character differs significantly from the real person.
