Camping & Hiking Horror Stories | Cryptids, Ghosts & Unexplained Encounters (x350)

Two Girls One Ghost

We love a peaceful walk in the forest, but sometimes there’s more than wildlife lurking between the trees. We’re venturing into the woods where cryptids, spirits, strange entities, and unexplained phenomena wait in the darkness, and these listener stories make the great outdoors feel a whole lot creepier after sunset.

Stories include:
One listener encounters a terrifying, unnaturally tall deer-like creature in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A strange stick doll found after a tragedy at a campsite triggers a streak of bad luck.
A skeptic hears a child laughing in the Mississippi woods and later discovers the remains of an old home nearby.
A correctional officer sees a mysterious figure moving through jail surveillance footage.

You guys should do an episode where it’s just all listener stories from past sceptics turned believers

I’m an archaeologist and my colleague has see things move in our office (we store the human remains next door in the secure store). Once the remains had been transferred to the museum the activity stopped

The rare sound of Bigfoot stubbing his toe 🫈

the kid laughing in the middle of nowhere and then finding an old house site in that exact spot a year later is such a good ghost story… creepy but also weirdly beautiful

You mentioned wondering about trail cam footage at 9:41, and I’m from a small town in Appalachia, and have a video from the pet graveyard on our farm of a Not Deer and it’s up there as one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen 😅 I’ll send it in along with the stories of the ghost on the farm!

Mountain lions and bobcats sound horrifying when they scream. I’m not saying that’s what Connor heard, but I needed to chime that in so you all look it up and hear the spookiness too.

Thoughts for the doll and its energy - salt! Depending on the size, put the doll on a jar of salt, bowl, or even salt circle, if you haven’t gotten rid of it/returned it to the forest. When you return it, look at the plants around the area. Look for plants like mugwort, wild ginger, or a fern if you aren’t 100% sure of the original spot. These are known for positive or protective energy. At this point when burying it make sure you are saying things along the lines of “your energy resides in this forest. Your energy has no control over us any longer. You will rest here.” Then after it is covered “this forest will contain this energy. This energy will be tamed here. We are release this control to the forest.”

Super random but on the note of “having days off on halloween” we actually do in the Philippines, but it’s because a lot of people travel to their provinces to pay respects to their dead on all souls’ day. So we get from October 30 to November 2 off depending on the days of the week they fall

my favourite stories are the Appalachian ones

I was in my barn getting ready to feed my goats and I looked down the aisle and I thought my nephew had run across and hid behind the hay. It was weird because it was taller, but I figured it was him because who else would want to jump out to scare me. So I crept down there and looked around the hay, nobody was there. I haven't seen things for quite awhile, I blocked myself off from it. But during this time of year I always like to listen to stories, but inevitably something always happens and I have to give it up for another year.

Haven’t properly encountered a mountain lion, but a friend and I once decided to go explore a pretty big forest in the same week that a mountain lion had been spotted on some neighbors’ trailcams. We did experience the “everything in the forest goes totally silent all at once” phenomenon a few times that day, and once heard a branch snap nearby during the silence, but whether that was due to the mountain lion or the paranormal we’re still not sure.

Scary camping stories are my favorite! And they're my favorite because they take place in the woods, in the woods are so mysterious❤

Ohhh speaking of crazy animal sounds. I just moved to tasmania, Australia and the Tassie Devil makes the scariest noise! Genuinely it’s like a demon!

Oh by the way, just 20 minutes outside of Catawba County. There is an antique store called dead people's stuff 😂. It used to be in my small town of Lenoir, North Carolina in Caldwell County. However, they moved it to hickory about 8 months ago. The old store front that they had it in is definitely haunted now.

18:35 bind the doll in white ribbon, drawing all of its influence back into itself. Include a white feather that was found in the same area. If it doesn't feel enough, you can include pieces of mirror turned back onto the doll to return its energy only to itself. Return it to where it was found, dig a hole, place it inside, surround by a salt ring, cover over with dirt. I would then suggest doing a cord-cutting ritual with candles - one candle to represent the doll, one each for the affected persons, with a string attached from doll candle to each persons candle. Invoke the dissolution of any connection and influence of the doll on the affected persons. You can add protective runes, herbs or plant material from the same location, salt ring - no hard and fast rules, just what feels right.
If it feels right, you might want to include an offering to the forest and its spirits, to thank them for dealing with the doll, and protecting everyone from its negative influence.
Good luck, much love, blessed be!

I live in Tahoe and there is so many scary noises at night mostly animals but it’s quite scary hearing that. Mountain Lions can sound like that. But I don’t think you heard it. Regardless. Tahoe is scary in its own way. Beautiful during the day. But at the night time especially heavily wooded. It’s scary. Eyes feel like they’re pinning you in the back of your head.
