Just commenting for support. Everyone who does a miniature video about non-gw minis with non-acrylics medium deserves to be commended. Thank you!

Can't ever have enough tips for oil paints.

I almost feel bad for watching this for free! What an amazing coverage of oil paints and beautifully shot, edited, and narrated. Thank you! I learned a lot today.

The production value of your videos (and the information value as well) goes through the roof.

I’ve been painting with oils since last year…mistake were made, but I can honestly say that I am mighty happy with all the minis I’ve painted. I’d show them off if I could.

Wow - this is the perfect primer for using oils in a miniature painting context, and it couldn't have arrived at a more perfect time. I'll be bookmarking this and referring back to it repeatedly as I explore these possibilities. On a small side note, I'm a little sad that new "Miracle Medium" non-toxic/non-flammable stuff didn't yield positive results for you. I already have some on order - as I was hoping it might solve my issue of working in a not-too-well-ventilated space - and that was probably a mistake. Oh well... odorless white spirits and half-mask it is, then.

Overthinning an oil wash can make it separate. The annoying thing is that it looks fine when applied, but can separate during the drying process. If you ever run into that problem, you have a couple of options: 1. thin the wash less. 2. don't leech the oil on cardboard, because the lack of binder causes the separation. 3. use a higher quality oil paint, since they can be thinned more.

33:50 These mix up so beautifully. It's shocking how well they mix when you aren't used to seeing it.

I've been wanting to give oil paints a try for a while. This video has inspired me to finally give it a go.

Thanks for taking the time to make this comprehensive guide! I know it will help me move on from using oils for washes, your work on the cloaks I found inspiring and motivating - thanks again.

Excellent video. Also seeing your work space and technique and then looking at my own, I feel like a complete slob.

I recommend getting a cheap heat gun for oil paints (honestly, it helps with acrylic too). You can knock the drying time down to only a few minutes. You don't even need to continuously blow on the model, just heat it up for a minute or two and let it sit. When working on a single model, I can airbrush a thick primer, heat-gun, airbrush gradients, brush touch-ups, oil washes, heat-gun, more detail work. No waiting over-night.

This is a really good video! Only info and down to earth without excessive and quick video cuts and hysteria. Just a calm, knowing nerd (meant affectionately of course) doing his thing. I have refrained from trying oil washes for some time because I cannot get it to dry even for months. I guess the card board soaking is the answer to my woes!

Great video! Thank you for taking the time to explain it thoroughly. Saved me a ton of time researching. Never stop, you have a great talent for explaining and painting.

I'm absolutely getting into infinity, the Combined Army as it happens and from that point of view I so appreciate seeing them painted in a much more vibrant palette than the muted box art, it really lights them up. It was your vids that got me into painting these beautiful models though rather than proxying them to try with the free downloaded rules. Once I saw your infinity vids I knew I wanted these sculpts more if anything than the really great game itself. The exact same goes for Warcrow, their fantasy game you introduced me to!
Oil paints are so much fun to paint with but so much more fun when a really carefully explained vid like this by one of the real talents gives you so many keys to avoiding mess and frustration!
Going to be watching this one over and over until all the cleverness sinks in....

I’ve watched thousands of videos on YouTube now and I’m telling you this is a very tight production. Honestly an amazingly well made video. Thanks so much for making this I’m just starting on my oil journey and this is a great video to refer back to.
