Durability is something I definitely agree with you on here. Sharks aren't even as durable as my Ridgid wet and dry vacuum I bought for CA$200 on sale from the orange home building store. Heck, even my aging Rainbow D4 SE being over 30 years old is more durable than the Shark. This also includes my Mom's 1985 model Rainbow D4.
I am not sure why anyone expects most vacuums to do edge cleaning all that well because there's a reason crevice tools are included with most vacuum cleaners. Again, the only machine that does decent edge cleaning is my Rainbow E2 Black. Reason? It has powered edge cleaning brushes on the power nozzle. This isn't the first time Rexair, the company behind the Rainbow borrowed an idea from street vacuum cleaners as the first one was using water to capture the dust.
You're British so you may not know what a Rainbow cleaning system is but it beat James Dyson in the field of a bagless vacuum that never loses airflow (and also suction) as well as these ideas being implemented before James Dyson was ever born. Also, what's worse than a Shark? I would say Dyson as they are also very flimsy but also very convoluted but also incredibly expensive. Remember me talking about the cones of hair I found in a Dyson "root cyclone?" Yeah, That complex network of tubing that makes Kirby look like a beast (they still are regardless of Dyson) with its short air path from nozzle to bag. It's all under 2 feet or less than 75 cm but also about 5 cm in diameter. Shark recently released a machine that somewhat solves the long tubing issue but the "engineers" also stuck another handheld vacuum cleaner in the handle. If anything, just give me a Numatic Henry. That's good enough for most applications. I am Canadian and the Canadian Jan/San distributor, NaceCare is the North American distributor of Numatic cleaning systems.
