My favourite way to get better at wheelies is to watch 1000 wheelie tutorials on youtube

@believe8263 7 months ago

This is hard but he makes this look wheelie easy.

@TangDynasty1983 7 months ago

You already had a video on wheelie/manual tutorial a while back. This one is even better! And just in time. I've been learning wheelie since August 2025, still haven't gotten it yet.

Be careful during the drill at 6:00. I accidentally stepped off the bike doing a fast manual and tore my ACL

I watched probably 35824 manual videos, but this one kinda felt best to watch and I learned a new thing I am going do for sure - that is the step down with one foot! Cannot wait try these.
Also, wheeling while standing is something no one teaches in their videos. Vert interesting approach you have!

nice work. mtb tutorials largely lack the step by step incremental improvement and measurement. this is professional level coaching

When I was learning how to manual (still am) one important thing that tutorials miss is actually compressing down through your feet and then immediately moving your weight back just like an L shape. Trying this showed me that pulling on the bars is actually not the biggest part of initiating manuals. Like bunnyhops / ollie it's not how hard you pull but actually how hard you push / compress through the BB and move your weight back. Manuals are actually key to for better bunny hop technique. Took me years to find this out as I learned to manual after bunny hops and wheelies.

This winter I told myself I'd finally learn how to wheelie. Rode BMX as a kid and been riding DH since 2016, but never took the time to learn. Had a bad accident in October, so it'll have to wait awhile cause I still can't pedal ... Do it while you still can.

Jeff, thank you for the tips on wheelies and stepping off the back of the bike! I just seriously started my wheelie journey this spring at 67! Even though I’m an expert rider and always ride double black, gnarly trails, I could not figure out how to step off the bike until you demonstrated how to do it properly. Nobody on YouTube shows you how to do it, they just say step off the back of the bike. It turns out that was a game changer for me. I was able to wheelie for about 30’, right after I learned how to step off the bike (after 30 reps worth of practice!) I’m sure with a little bit more practice, I’ll be able to wheelie 300’ in no time. Thank you so much!

Bump jumping out of a manual feels sooo good!

The new thing I learned here was learning to wheelie while standing. I always wheelie seated and manual standing. But I get why you suggest learning to wheelie while standing.

One issue I have is speed control. I don't think you mentioned it here. But leaning back far enough so you don't have to keep pedalling harder and faster to keep the front wheel up.

I am so rusty at these now and this has inspired me to work on dialing in my wheelies and manuals again.

Been trying for years😂 one thing for sure, I consistently practice to fail😂

@devinzoller3499 7 months ago

I absolutely LOVE wheelies. They feel amazing. I struggle to wheelie when I'm using click pedals, and it's not because I can't clip out quickly- I figured out that with flat pedals I constantly angle my feet on the pedal to mainain balance and when clipped in my foot is locked flat. So I've basically resigned myself to just wheelying on my flat pedal bikes. Life goes on. Thanks for the consistently great videos Jeff!

I spent my entire winter focusing on wheelies/manuals. I am not sorry that I did. It only clicked when I spent the time to practice. No other way to learn.
