I believe the seven rings on the sky is ment to represent a saltshaker, that's why all the enemies start to look crusty and white, they are being salted

For clarification, power eggs are not fertilized, those are the golden eggs that Mr. Grizz has us collecting. The salmonids have gladly traded power eggs with the octarians in exchange for technology in the past and would probably do it again.

Having played every Splatoon campaign around their launch period, plus all the recent Kirby games, I honestly wasn’t even phased that much by the Salmonarch, it’s honestly the kind of Eldritch Horror I’ve come to expect from Nintendo final bosses at this point.

Man but I had not seen that bad ending. Absolutely horrifying, but also a real cool link back to Splatoon 2! Makes me wonder what other future lore beats may be right under our noses as we speak…

I literally pogged when the seven rings appeared. That one sunken scroll in Splatoon 2 always stood out to me, so it felt weirdly personal?

13:08 This isn't a Harry Potter Wand Duel. It's clearly a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann giga drill breaker-off.

ntm that salmon that look like those salmonids(?) irl ARE sometimes just straight rotting, allegedly. males look that way when they're about to spawn and apparently their bodies can just start breaking down at a certain point while they're still alive, as they're not meant to survive spawning. same happens to the females i'm pretty sure, they just don't take that monstrous, deformed appearance first lol. in their normal state they're just unremarkable silver fish, no hooked beaks or hunchbacks

Splatoon bosses in 2015: Haha funny cube with short legs
Splatoon bosses now: Actually just King Ghidorah

The seven rings in the sky is an old prophecy from the splatoon universe's bible. You can see it on a sunken scroll in Splatoon 2

I didn’t know what Salmonarch was called for a bit and I was calling him Fish Cathulu

pretty sure the strong arms isn't dismembering but actively deflating all of the muscle out of the fins until they shrivel back up which feels even more gross

The Salmonids have always been a very odd addition to the Splatoon universe. Most of their lore being HEAVILY darker than the rest of the games. Mainly because their whole culture revolves on the idea of Cannibalism. Yes, they find glory in eating each other. So their whole aspect and theme is very much dark horror.

23:20 it’s a cello that plays in all salmon related music 🥹

Finally some good content to watch at work again

Splatoon in general just has a lot of horror elements.

And while this isn't a generalized 'creepy content in video games' list, I think the game Cavern of Dreams is worth a look at! There's a lot of eerie aspects to it. The entire second level, Airborne Armada, is essentially a living air ship. Complete with heart monitors for the literal beating heart at the center, with veins and a pool of blood beneath it.

And the entire last level gets surprisingly dark, even if it's the intended 'scary' level
