Johanna von Ott from Chur knows exactly what she wants: a life partner, as professionally successful as she is, with whom she can start a family. After countless disappointments with dating apps, she has now invested 5,000 euros in a matchmaking agency. “rec.” reporter Anne-Sophie Galli is there when Johanna discusses dealbreakers and dates with her matchmaker, receiving dating coaching and style advice.
At the same time, the reporter goes behind the scenes of the matchmaking service: Luxury matchmaker Elena Sachs searches for women for her paying clients at exclusive locations, such as a Pilates class in a 5-star hotel in Lucerne. These are mostly professionally successful men who are willing to shell out at least 12,000 Swiss francs for the perfect match.
Christophe Diserens from Lausanne goes even further: He pays a high-class matchmaker in Dubai a hefty 30,000 dollars. For him, it's a rational investment in his dream woman.
How much is the hope of finding true love worth to us? And are matchmaking services a good alternative to dating apps?
