In my late 20s I could not accept that he didn't want to know me so I pursued the relationship with my father at the dismay of my brother and sister from the same mother/father.
Years later he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I forced him to let me take care of him. Over the few years I was my siblings advocate. I got to know them and I gave him many stories if what he missed. Done with love I included his children in every conversation. His heart was open, His children not receptive. One day I asked him while crying, why didn't he want us, were we ugly, fat, dumb, not cool why wouldn't he try. I never saw him cry so hard. He said it was never any of you, I was so ASHAMED, I felt I had no right to ask to be in your lives.
Fear of rejection and shame caused him to not ask for forgiveness and love.
His father died when he was a baby. He was never taught to love, to connect, he couldn't overcome the fear. In the end some of that healed. Don't let the pain of having connection come hard. You will always regret if you dont try. I love you guys!
