Johnny Depp was nominated for an Oscar for this role, something rare for a comedy role.

Jack is the main reason why these movies were so fun

I never understood the hate towards the Commodore. He was always a gentleman to Elizabeth, obv cared for her, and humble enough to let her go when it was clear she loved Will. He abided by the rules and not lenient towards pirates, but in a world where pirates killed innocent ppl, is that supposed to be a bad thing? In that world, like Elizabeth said, he's really the stand-up guy every girl should wish to marry.

I don't know how television works in the US but where I'm from these movies have been playing at least once a year in the past 15 years on some channels . That's how we are introduced to most iconic movies and when they are on it's a must watch and they always hit differently when playing in the TV in comparison to streaming them. Looking forward to your reactions!

2nd movie has one of the greatest villains in cinema history

The greatest thing about these movies is they are so family friendly. They aren't overtly R rated but have themes of that kind of stuff. People get killed, there are prostitutes and shit but it's still generally not too raunchy or violent for a kid like 10 years old.

The first 3 Pirates movies are loads of fun, the others are okay but definitely recomend the next two.

"Uncultured, no childhood... we just watched Star Wars a billion times" I relate so much.

I have watched this film a dozen times and I just caught that the green apple obviously wasn't poisoned (I knew it wasn't but I hadn't realized why Barbosa was acting so weird with Elizabeth and the apple). He's watching her eat/taste the food and actually enjoy it living vicariously through her. She thinks the apple is poisonous so we the audience also have that suspicion until later when Jack eats that apple proving it's not poisonous. Everything in this movie is so tightly written.

No one does it better than Johnny Depp in the POTC Franchise. Originally Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film but was too busy working on Catch Me If You Can and Minority Report, both released in 2002.
