Planes just looked and felt so much more exciting back in those days.

I know it’s a strange thing to say but to me this era is when planes looked like planes and were somehow very exciting. I can remember as a child the thrill of going to Belfast International Airport (Aldergrove) to pick up various relatives arriving for a visit and Dad taking me up to the old viewing platform on top of the terminal building to watch these small jets and the turbo props taxiing, taking off and landing and the smell of the aviation fuel exhaust fumes to me was more sublime than Chanel No. 5 ! That feeling of awe at machines that can fly has never left me and even though I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve flown , that childlike excitement when I’m climbing the steps up into an aircraft is still there.

I like how the noses of the old planes are painted in a different color from the fuselage

Sound and Smoke. The Good old days!

Was a plane spotter living at Egham , Surrey in 1972 before moving onto the flightpath into Gatwick 1973 onward.Happy days of Constellations, coronados, tridents, 111's caravelles, viscounts, heralds, skyvans, vc10, comet, concorde, big orange 747, lakers' skytrains dc10s, 707, 720, 737, dc9, dc8, tupolevs, happy days!!!

It was more interesting when BOAC and BEA were separate entities.

Holy!  Listen to those thrust reversers.  No hush kits back then.

Tridents , VC 10s along with the Bristol Britannia’s were the most advanced aircraft of their time .

The tridents were beautiful and advanced.

What a landing... He just totally greased it.

I was cabin crew on Trident 2Es in the seventies. I remember the seat rows in front of the overwing exits faced the rear. It was a beautiful aeroplane, all British, and very fast too. Very happy days. I loved every second working on Tridents and VC10s.

Don't you just MISS that sound of a real plane.

It's a two, not a three.  Loved the clip.  The Viscount take off right at the end was a touch!¬

A neat and compact airplane. And very-sophisticated, like the Lockheed-tristars.

Oh Boy i wish i was born on those times, those planes looked so beautiful, The Trident, Vickers-Armstrong VC-10, BAC 111
So beautiful, OH and i almost forgot, the Legend, Concorde

Reverse thrust....FANTASTIC

One thing that really makes this aircraft is this asymmetrical front landing gear, must say that I really like it!

The aesthetics on these midcentury airliners.....

1:47 makes such a unique sound

GEEZ who knew how loud tridents erre
