The philosophers who preceded Socrates, those who lived before the 5th century BC, are called the Physiologus, those who gave the first impetus to Western philosophy.

They are sometimes called the Physiologus, from the Greek words phusis, meaning nature, and logos, meaning science or discourse. Indeed, these philosophers were interested in Nature, the Universe, and Being. Enigmatic figures, whose writings are no less so, we will strive to show that their vision remains strikingly relevant more than twenty-five centuries later.
