I knew things we were in a different era of fighting games wheneve I noticed that everyone would immediately bring out their phone and look up the frame data after a match rather than talking to their opponent in the early SFV days

I asked James about a mechanic in SF6 last week and he literally stopped playing and went into the lab and broke the entire thing down. 30+ mins of his time! (And was asking if i needed more)
James is really criminally underrated. He is the leading source of fgc history and a talented educator.

The only guest I was waiting for after Yipes. The Unsung Hero of the FGC, James Chen.

Oh man, James Fucking Chen!!!! I get so excited when Chen appears like Akuma. 😂😂😂 You just KNOW the episode is gonna be filled with lore and ancient SF wisdom! 😂🔥🔥🔥

When I was a late 09er, in the most godlike era of the FGC (an era I miss so much), James was basically commentating every SF4 (shout outs to SF4 the goat) tournament. Once I had a few years of following this community & became an 'OG' lmao & heard all the different commentators etc .. James is still one of my favs & he's part of the reason I thought the community was cool. He's one of the ppl in the FGC that made me wanna stick around.

James and Spooky are the reason I got into the FGC

I was looking at some X Men vs. Street Fighter combos on GameFAQs and realized that they were made be James!

This video is great. Two friends who've been in different roles of the same industry and the advancements in technology that has happened over the decades. Not just the frame data talk but the fact we can distinctively say a player's name and people recognize them as one of the best in a certain game on a global scale. That was only a dream in the 90s-00s now it's taken for granted.

This MvC2 Renaissance is beinging a glut of amazing content!!

So amazing to see these legends just sit and talk about this past of which i obsessivly watched from the periphery

As a weepy, nostalgic old man.... this is fking amazing

This was very cool to listen to at work. Long live the passion for fighting games, long live the fgc!

Watching this, I’m overwhelmed with nostalgia but also sadness that that didn’t stick with the Street Fighter community in the late 90s. Once GoldenEye came out, I kind of got hooked on FPS games and never looked back. Coming back to watch content and to see how HF and ST evolved over the decades, and is still going strong, is a beautiful sight. But, sadly, I can only really engage with it as an outsider looking in.

Props to Justin for having his phone balanced on his ankle for damn near 48 minutes.

John Choi vs. Punk in Alpha 2 when?

I remember young man James keeping the Ackerman Union arcade going at UCLA back in the day. Legend of the FGC!

As someone who lived in Chicago in the 90s, hearing the salt from any Knicks fan of the era makes me smile just as much as anyone trying to beat Justin in MvC2.
