I just purchased a celestron 91/4" telescope and thanks to your info video on colmination I was able to get it lined lined up and start using it. I have watched several of your videos and have learned from them. Thank-you and keep making educational videos for us novice star gazers.

I recently acquired a late 80's Meade 8" SCT. Planetary views through it have been less than amazing with the planets looking "soft" at higher mags. This video is the simplest, and most straightforward, explanation of how to collimate an SCT that I have found. Thank you, Tsula!

Great explanation. Recently convinced my Father to pass down the 1980s Celestron Super C8 Plus that we had when I was a child. Will definitely need some time to set up, align and collimate it since it has been in their basement for at least 30-40 years but it looks in good shape otherwise. I had a 10' Dob that I gave up when I moved so I am excited to get this classic into operation.

One thing though, it would have been good to mention while in the process of collimating a un-collimated SCT, each turn of the secondary mirror housing screw(s) de-centers the unfocused Airy disk in the field of view (FOV). It's important to re-center the Airy disk to the middle of the FOV so as to not experience any possible edge distortions in an off-axis image within the eyepiece. Then, keep repeating that process with each adjustment of the screws until the telescope is properly collimated.

Thank you Tsula! On my 10" Newtonian collimation assembly, I replaced the screws with ones having knobs from Bob's Knobs. This way, I don't drop the hex wrench down my tube onto the mirror! Cheers from Texas!
