In the final installment of my Japan Match Series (5/5), you'll see my match against Tanaka. According to my coach, Mr. Chu, Tanaka remained undefeated for a remarkable 130 matches during his time at Fujiidera – an incredible streak. His game was correspondingly strong, versatile, and difficult to read.

Especially impressive: Tanaka was the personal warm-up partner of Japanese table tennis legend Koki Niwa and accompanied him to tournaments. His immense skill, feel for the ball, and game intelligence were immediately apparent in the match.

Against opponents like that, it's not enough to play just one style. You have to remain tactically flexible, constantly adapt, and try to find the right solutions in every phase of the match. I gave it my all in this game, felt great both mentally and physically, and tried to bring my entire game to the table.
