Why you should learn shot types first, Wing Shots and how to practice

Shortstop On Pool

Wing shots create cue ball routes that no other shot type can. In this lesson you'll learn what defines a wing shot, how throw, spin and cut angle affect cue ball control, and I'll demonstrate more dozens of position routes you can take directly to the practice table. Wing shots are one of my five primary shot types for streamlining pool aim and cue ball control practice sessions.

Great video! I like the fack that you don't rush through your explanation of each subject matter. I would love to see you do a video for those of us that has injuries to their lower back. I'm 6'4" and 67 y/o...Pool ain't as easy as it was back in the day!!! lol

Might be the best lesson on q-ball control ever.

Thanks for tips, I just have to practice the right way, the same way in golf. In golf a lot of people can hit the golf ball, but to get the ball to golf where you want it to go that’s the challenge. Then you have those that hit the ball on the weekend playing golf, then you have those that play in a tournament. Now the pressure is on it’s a different level of pressure, level, ect.

Good stuff as usual, Bob! I think the main takeaway here is experimentation. I like to tell people that they'll figure it out by shooting a million shots first. I'm not expecting people to set up and replicate all 36 shots here, but the drill ideas you bring up near the end are great ideas. On a similar note, while it's not a wing shot, I think #33 is the stroke you need for the wnt 9 ball break

aiming techniques are not useless, they give an important starting reference which can be used to build on with allowances for spin, swerve, throw and pocket position

So, this is what used to be called a back cut shot.

You need to update your spin graphics ball to increase the size of the red tip hit dot. It would be more helpful to have a realistically sized red tip hit dot to reduce confusion in the diagram.

By contact induced spin, do you mean the spin that the cue ball gains by contacting the object ball?

@robertwilson9698 2 months ago

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "leaving the collision with more energy", but I assume you don't mean that the cueball has more energy after impacting the object ball compared to what it had to prior to hitting the object ball. Obviously the cueball loses energy with every impact. It might make it more clear to newer players if you word that differently and say something to the effect of, "the cueball will have more energy/speed than the object ball does after the impact." Thanks for putting out lots of great content of the game that we all love, I appreciate you.
