This is why he is called "the voice"

Steve is one of the most humble and kind guys you could ever meet.  He was never about the fame..just the music.  The best singer of all time IMO❤❤❤

Yes that is actually her...

Steve “The Voice” Perry is truly one of a kind and a gift from God.
NOBODY has a voice like him or sings with such power, passion, emotion, or range!
A TRUE living legend.

Steve’s first solo album Street Talk is amazing from start to finish.

Steve Perry's interview with Dan Rather is worth watching to understand Steve's life from his childhood to joining Journey and beyond.

Funny Story. I’m a nurse and worked at a big teaching hospital. I was called in one night for an emergency procedure. I was the first one there, at least I thought I was. I was singing “Oh Sherrie” at the top of my lungs in the procedure room. Anesthesiologist came in laughing saying he was a Steve Perry fan. During the procedure he kept calling me “Steve Perry girl” because he couldn’t remember my name. Hahaha.

Foolish heart and strung out are good too

Steve is a very humble kind of a guy. He is Portuguese his family is from the Azores. He was raised by his Mother and  Father. His parents divorced when Steve was 8 years old. His Mother and Grandfather raised him. He was born in Handford California. Worked on his Grandfather's Turkey Farm. And worked as a construction worker. Never ever heard of Steve getting in trouble or doing crazy stuff like a lot of rock stars. He did indulge in drinking while with Journey and participated in things but according to the band on off days never while on the road or when they had to perform. They had a tough manager. Herbie Herbert. So...Steve pretty much was a real down to earth guy and still is today he's on his early 70s.

I love Steve Perry’s voice he got burnt out and couldn’t tour anymore what a shame . Mother,Father is a great song it really shows his range

There is no Journey without Steve Perry.

Steve Perry is definitely a “good dude”. He gave Sheree Swafford, his then girlfriend, residuals from the song after they broke up.

A wonderful performance of Journey Live, is in 1980 Japan...
Singing the combination of "Lights "
And "Stay A While."  (songs are short, so they combined them).
Thanks for the Reaction! 👍

I love how music is timeless.. I haven't heard this song in forever, probably since it came out, but I still remember the lyrics!

The other band members never took into consideration the health of Steve’s voice and what a toll it was taking. His voice was his instrument. The others could replace their instruments if they broke or wore out. Steve said it was so grueling he didn’t even sing at all for a long period of time he was so burned out. Such a talent!

this is Steve' response to producers wanting to change the meaning of a song Steve thought the song should stand on its; own merits. The girl is indeed Sherrie and  she was indeed his girlfriend at the time. I read inseveral toehr videos that Steve all the royalties of this record to Sherrie and her family. He regarded it as her song.  It was bid hit from his first solo album,Street Talk.

Strve’s song “Strong Out” and the accompanying video with the same name is the precursor to this music video. “Strung Out” is another great song from the same album that “Oh Sherrie” comes from, “Street Talk”. The entire album is amazing and was created while Steve was still with Journey. Neal had already created two non-Journey albums with Jan Hammer so Steve wanted a shot at making his own album. Steve’s first solo album did much better on the charts that Neal’s did which didn’t sit well with Neal. The song “Anyway” from Steve’s “For the Love of Strange Medicine” album was Steve’s apology to his Journey bandmates for his part in some of the discord within the band. The are videos of Steve’s concert for his album “For the Love of Strange Medicine”. You get a good feel for Steve’s sense of humor and just how talented he is in writing and producing music. Steve’s third album called Traces” was created due to a promise that he made to his dying girlfriend, Kelly Nash. Steve was deeply in love with Kelly and helped her try to fight the cancer, but unfortunately cancer won.

Every time this song comes on either mine or my sisters playlist, we always screenshot it, and send it to each other. Definitely a song we broke out singing to.

I think there were several reasons Steve left. Listening to him talk about it he was physically and mentally exhausted.  I think he is known as a good person. I’ve never heard any crazy wild stories about him.

Steve Perry did this solo album during a time when Journey was on hiatus...plus he was upset with Neal Schon, the guitar player in Journey having already done his own solo work when they sort of had a gentleman's agreement among members not to do that.   Additionally, Steve just wanted to test the waters to see if he had a viable shot at a solo career. His mother was also very ill at the time and it allowed him to spend more time with her towards the end.  He struggled with the decision of whether to continue in his solo projects or to go back to Journey.  It was his mother who convinced him that he needed to return to Journey.  She was a very wise woman IMO because even though he sounded great on this album there was something missing...and that was the undeniably powerful connection he and Neal Schon had. They needed each other.
