Is the Holy Eucharist really the body and blood of Jesus Christ—or is the Catholic belief simply a form of cannibalism? In this powerful conversation, a Baptist questions Sam Shamoun about Catholicism, the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, and the biblical meaning of eating Christ’s flesh and drinking Christ’s blood. Sam Shamoun explains why the earliest Christians were accused of cannibalism and why receiving the Eucharist is completely different from consuming ordinary human flesh or animal blood.

Sam Shamoun examines John 6, 1 John 5:20, 1 Corinthians 11, and the Old Testament prohibition against drinking animal blood. Because Scripture teaches that the life of the flesh is in the blood, Sam Shamoun argues that receiving the flesh and blood of the God-man means receiving the eternal and incorruptible life of Jesus Christ. Sam Shamoun also addresses whether sacramental wine is necessary, why the Last Supper involved wine rather than grape juice, and how the early Church mixed wine with water during the Eucharistic celebration.

The conversation then turns to the Virgin Mary, the intercession of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and what Catholics mean when they say that Mary or another Christian can “save” someone. Sam Shamoun concludes by examining the historical unity and later divisions between the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox churches, Assyrian Church, the papacy, the Filioque, and the two natures of Jesus Christ.
