That morning, as he was heading to his job in the Twin Towers, his train was unexpectedly delayed. Because of this delay, he did not arrive at work on time. At the very moment he would normally have been there, the planes struck the towers.
By the grace and mercy of Allah, that delay became a means of protection for him. According to him, he believes that his act of giving charity was a سؚؚ (means) through which Allah granted him safety.
What makes this story even more remarkable is that the man was not a Muslim at the time. After surviving the incident, he later accepted Islam and took the shahada. He himself narrated that some of his coworkers were Muslims who used to speak to him about the importance of sadaqah and charity.
He eventually took his shahada in our masjid, and I personally witnessed it in real life. This is not a story I heard from others or watched on YouTubeâthis happened before YouTube even existed.
In short, giving charityâsadaqahâbrings reward in many ways, often in unseen and miraculous forms.
