Santos is known for its beaches, but there’s a lot more to the city than sand and sunshine.

In this video, I head into the historic centre to explore City Hall, the coffee trade that made Santos rich, the port, and the Coffee Museum — all while dodging rain and working out where I actually am.

This is real travel: wandering, getting a bit lost, learning as you go, and seeing a city beyond the tourist highlights.

I am an older backpacker travelling the world proving that backpacking is not just for the younger generation.

A WORD ABOUT THE STATUE WITH CELL PHONE - It's José Bonifacio, the Patriarch of Brazil's Independence. He is buried in the mausoleum just behind. The cell phone is because Bonifácio described petalite and spudomene, the minerals from which lithium is taken, the metal used in 3 billion cell phones around the world. In addition to being a politician, he was a scientist and humanist. The city of Santos thus remembers its most illustrious son.

Hi mate,you can enter the city hall,take the lift to upper floor,there is a nice cafe and a view of the port.

Nice to see your trip Stu, gonna follow you! Enjoy your country, there's a lot of historical places to know in the south shore. If you have time, try to go to Morretes, Paraná - this region is beautifull and "close" to you (I'm saying "close" in brazilian terms, off course hahahaha) If you're into nature, take some time to explore Iguape>Ilha Comprida>Cananéia (and Ilha do Cardoso - Cardoso Island), is on the way to south!

Hi my friend, I'm following your adventure in my country, there in the Baixada Santista region. Go check out the cable car in São Vicente, Ilha Porchat, the hill where they do hang gliding and paragliding, go see the Tomie Otake monument on the beach, the restaurant at the observatory, the aquarium...

Vice tem 25 libras por dia, contando com o valor da hospedagem? Voce tem a vantagem do câmbio, mas se contar com a hospedagem, este valor é pouco. Agoda 180 reais por dia, da pra se alimentar bem. Mas voce precisa se alimentar de verdade, com comida brasileira. Puxe conversa, enckntrara boas indicações. Se ficar andando pela cidade sozinho, sem se cokunicar, voce estará vistando o Brasil de forma errada
