Nice handy bushing removal tool. Plus, most of us probably have the needed parts in our shops already. Proves the old adage "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". A cheap application.

I think I would have cut out the rusted part out and welded in a new piece of C channel in. Replace the whole part.

Putting the paint on thick down there for protection is a good thing. Runs are not a big deal; this is not about aesthetics but about protecting the metal. Great and meticulous job, Steve!

If I may give a hint. When you weld the torch gives co2, when you stop the torch still gives co2, that's to prevent oxigen getting to your weld.
My surgerstion is to hold the torch a view more seconds wile the metal is still red hot. That protects againsted oxigen getting on your fresh weld.
Good you saw the hole in the arm.
Nice thick overkill plate used to improve strength.
