I was living in Fallowfield in April 80, took bus to macclesfield to get away from a schitzo gf. Walked up a hill into a wood, drunk some beers and dozed off by a wall. awoke to noticed a strange young guy walking dejectively thru the wood looking depressed. I think it was Ian.
I understand why the wife doesn’t like pushing the tortured artist narrative. She’s right that he regressed into a moody teenage existentialist when faced with his mortality/epilepsy. She lost the father of her child though and probably doesn’t see the charm in looking at him as this brilliant artist dying for his art.
Sad really....as there is no death for the conscious self. Even the mind doesn't die, what to speak of the self. All death is, is when the conscious self and the mind leave the physical body.
