In this video, I restore an old, heavily damaged antique sewing machine with missing parts, broken cast iron, seized mechanisms, and badly chipped paint.
When I first got this machine, I knew it would be a challenge, but I didn't realise how much work would be involved. Several parts were broken or missing, and figuring out exactly what was needed turned out to be one of the hardest parts of the restoration. Fortunately, these machines were mass-produced, so I managed to find several original replacement parts.
The restoration involved disassembling the machine, cleaning the internal mechanisms, repairing damaged components, and bringing the original decorative details back to life as close as I could to the original. Some parts required custom solutions, while others had to be sourced from similar machines. I also had to deal with a cracked cast iron component and a missing winding mechanism.
The original wooden box was too damaged to save, so I decided to make a new one from scratch. For this, I used the Creality Falcon T1 5-in-1 Laser Engraver to engrave and cut the wooden panels, as well as recreate some of the machine's original markings and decorative details. I also tested its capabilities on aluminium, slate, ceramic tile, and brass, exploring different engraving depths, colours, and materials.
At the end of the video, you'll see the results of this restoration and how all the pieces come together again.

My dad had this hobbie too. And he would be amazed by this engraving machine. He would be 'tattooing' all of his fixes and customizing all new bought ones too. Man, he would love it.
