Part of how it changed in cata/mop was also the zone design.
Everything became far more on rails like a single player RPG.
As a result the player often  would be addressed directly like a main character.

As I commented in the original video; I find it funny how since Cata at least players were bitching that "I'm the guy who saved the world multiple times and defeated Illidan and the Lich King, where is my special treatment?" then when they finally started getting called Champion they had a conniption. I remember being in Stormwind during Cataclysm, Dragon Soul had come out and everyone in the trade chat bitching being treated like a nobody after defeating Deathwing. The community has selective memory and never wants to accept accountability for their input into what WoW has become.

Would be interesting to see a mmorpg that doesn't have Gods or world ending threats for end game, but more stuff like Defias Brotherhood etc as end game content.
Much easier to keep the "being a nobody" concept if threats are a little more down to earth.

I loved the Argent Tournament too honestly. The dailies were pretty fun, I thought it was a great idea for a "thing to keep the soldiers from getting antsy, and to help them get out their aggression so they can work together to take down Arthas" sort of thing. :)

I'm shocked they haven't called us a titan by now lol. "Titan! We have a new threat. It's an entire planet! Become a titan and help us!"

The WoW story makes it like the player just happens to be at the scene of an event by chance, since it makes no difference whether they are there or not.

All my action ingame are as the Netherlord... I dont recongnize myself as "champion", Magni and his vooooons really made me hate being that lol

The real reason they reused Naxx again, is because so few players got to see it the first time around.

mfw when you are the champion and you have the "'eel the woooooons"

I feel WoW classic, does a good job of telling a story. While leaving the chance up to your character if that's something you care about that made impacts on the games narrative and gaming culture. Its totally optional, the world can keep going around you with catastrophizes, and you get to decide how big of am impact you have on the world you exist. Kind of like the AQ openings, every delivery felt meaningful.

In wod there are two good things about this expansion.
BRF and soundtrack

Guzu is gangsta

it always been weird to me that in WoW, a MMO player is treated as singular entity. In Skyrim for example it makes sense, you are doing everything yourself. But in WoW you doing everything as a group/guild, quests, dungeons, raids, etc. but it never being reflected in the lore or quests. To me it seems that it should be the main feature, that there is a bunch of us "players" in the lore not an only one "yourself"

Like 90% of the few of us that plays progression servers really want WoD and Legion to happen. We are not many, but those that are left really want this.

:) 06:00 you're an expandible... and are free... you are... a Helldiper o7
for Managed Burocracy and Thisle-tea

what started as a walking simulator (classic) turn out ot be another simulator
A cameraman simulator (midnight) whats gonna be next? 😂😂😂

i definetely prefer how OSRS does it, the fool that not only gets drag into trouble but is often the cause of said problems

Thats why I like Vanilla, TBC and OSRS story telling, as Drakan puts it: " You. A mere human... I don't even know your name"

I always liked retiring my main each expansion and letting an alt character take over. It was enough for me to headcannon my latest character being up and coming and needing to prove himself against the latest threat. This stopped working for me in Legion. As much I liked that expansion I hated artifact weapons because it just felt like I was being handed something I didn't deserve. Didn't enjoy any expansion after that.

this is what Arthas's whole speech was about. he says "you have delivered the greatest army in the universe right into my hands" and then he resurrects us as fallen champions of the scourge and we would destroy the world. Or he would have, had he won.
in FF14 the player character also becomes a champion, yes. that story arc ended with "Endwalker". what happens after I have no clue and I don't care, I was done with FF14 after that storyline.
