Putting Die Lit the literal spot above TPAB is the most blatant ragebait I've seen on one of these lists, it's so obvious they just did it to get people talking.

They definitely listed 100! Next time they should try ranking the best ones!

Yeezus being the only Kanye placement is WILD!

This is like if a normal person and a total troll made two separate lists and then used chatgpt to smash them together randomly

This is the most Pitchforkian list that Pitchfork has ever pitched. Fork.

People forget or fail to realize the chokehold that Get Rich or Die Tryin’ had not only on rap/hip-hop but also pop music in general in the early-2000s. A cultural phenomenon.

Sexy Red better than the whole Roots discography is nasty work.

Prompt: "Create a top 100 hip hop albums list of all time that has some legitimately good picks, and some really stupid, moronic, controversial picks in order to drive engagement and clicks."

12:36 Fantano usually speaks pretty non-regionally, but Azealia Banks pissed him off enough to bring out the NY metro accent

Pitchfork's list is most definitely a list

Pitchfork so lost he had to bust out the where's Waldo fit

These things seem so calculated to get engagement, like just the start with doggystyle at 100 seems designed to get people to point out every album above doggystyle, same with the chronic at 60, those choices make no sense outside of getting people to comment “they put sexy red above doggystyle” or “they put pop smoke above the chronic”

No LL, no Ice Cube, only 1 Outkast,  no Mac Miller, no Cypress Hill, no  Ice-T, no Get Rich or Die Trying, Chronic 2001, Common, The Roots, Big Pun, The Carter 3, Run the Jewels.

No inclusion of any of The Roots albums has me about to start a riot

I'd like to throw Missy Elliott into the mix of "glaring omissions." She opened the doors for MANY female rappers with classics like "Supa Dupa Fly" and "Miss E ...So Addictive."

Classic pitchfork Rage Bait list. They are desperate for more traffic.

TPAB at 44 can't be anything other than ragebait

"Pitchfork´s Top 100 Rap Albums List Is Weird"

You just made the guys from pitchfork really happy, they finally got the recognition they have been working for!

They put so much effort into putting a lot of underrated albums that they completely forgot a majority of the most popular and influential albums

Maybe a hot take but regardless of quality I strongly prefer top X lists that are limited to a time period, region, something that confines things a bit more. Having it be so general seems like it flattens the discussion in a lot of ways and also greatly reduces the number of projects getting attention. How many times do we need to discuss the exact placement of ready to die or whatever before it gets pointless?
