This was a very interesting design. I'm quite impressed with both the gain and selectivity from only 3 transistors. Thank you for sharing the schematic for analysis. 73
I recall a store in downtown Milwaukee in the 60's that sold tiny radios, the store front window was full of them. This was a interesting repair, thanks for helping the kid out and sharing it with the class
Shango, you made my day when you opened the steel filing cabinet and thumbed through the files and located the diagram in less time that it would take me to remember my logon. Paper files are invaluable, so good that you appreciate the value and are the current custodian.
I was born in 1955 and I remember always having a transistor radio that I’d listen to in bed at night. It was my first electronic device. I didn’t understand how it worked then and I still don’t. I like the mystery
Bought this one around 1960. It came with a light brown leather carrying case. At that time people would brag about how many transistors their radio had.
Thanks to you, I just repaired a Juliette AT-85 AM radio from the 60s. Similar problem--one of the intermediate stage transformers had an open secondary. A film cap across the coils did the job!
That thing is about a year and half younger than me. As a kid in the 60's a pocket radio was like the internet is to us now. Fairly easy fix for that old dog.
Learned something new. Would never have thought to just bypass the secondary. This would have gone into a box on the shelf in case I ever found another one of them in my travels. Great little video
Wow , Only 3 transistors and it worked so well ? Even with a bad transformer. Today's equivalent would have a clear blob chip with half a million semiconductors built in , and work great for about 15 minuets after the warranty . LOL Nice Video .
You are being an "Elmer" to that youngster. A term ham radio guys gave to old timers that shared their experience with the upcoming generation. This has to be the simplest superhet pocket radio. Good video Shango. Thanks for all you do./
