■Oshita Udaji
1896-1966: A Japanese detective novelist
Real name: Kinoshita Tatsuo. Pseudonym: XYZ.
Born in Nakaminowa Village, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture (present-day Minowa Town) to his father, Jingoro, and mother, Yasu.
Attended Matsumoto Junior High School (present-day Nagano Prefectural Matsumoto Fukashi High School) and the First Higher School.
In 1921 (Taisho 10), graduated from the Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu Imperial University (present-day Kyushu University).
Worked at the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce's Provisional Nitrogen Research Institute. Inspired by the success of his colleague, Koga Saburo, in the detective novel world, he began writing detective novels.
In April 1925 (Taisho 14), he debuted with the detective novel "Kinkuchi no Maki Tabako" (Golden Mouth Scroll) in the detective magazine "Shin Seinen" published by Hakubunkan.
