British Punk: Sex Pistols. The Clash.
Japanese Punk: Actual Sex. Actual Pistols. Actual Clashes. (Probably.)

I've been to over 3000 gigs. I've been crushed, cut, bashed, stomped on, head-butted, electrocuted, hit with all manner of objects both accidental and deliberate, fallen over, been pushed over, had my hair pulled out, broken a few bones, and even been carted off in an ambulance once. All of those things happened at completely different times at different shows. I could have saved a lot of trouble by just going to a Hanatarash gig and experienced all of it in one night. Imagine being chased around by an excavator whilst dodging sheets of glass being thrown at you, and then the building you're in gets demolished and falls down around you, but not before the molotov cocktails come out. Man, I thought my stories were good. I'm just a hopeless rookie compared to these guys.

Imagine going out to see a band and the singer ends up chasing you with a bulldozer lol

Almost 40 years later & these guys are still going strong today (in different bands tho). Btw they never threw the dead cat in the audience, they cut it up with a machete & it wasn’t a bulldozer it was an excavator. Quite a difference.

This seems like the ultimate experience for a gatekeeping metal fan to call anybody a poser.

A lot of the pictures comes from Gin Satoh, a photographer who was able to record the chaos of this scene. I recommend everyone to check out these pictures because they are amazing and perfectly encapsulates that scene in the 80’s as a whole.

I love the direction your channel is going in man.  I'm a huge fan of obsure and darker " art " .  It's cool to see someone bringing it to the surface

It should be noted that Hanatarash's vocalist would later on become a huge collaborator with John Zorn, the founder of the band Naked City.

Ordinarily, I would not go to a concert in which the lead singer demolishes everything with an excavator.  Yet, there is a part of me that admires how he did it without injuring anyone in the audience.

My brother in-law is a huge Einstürzende Neubauten fan. He saw them in Detroit in 1985. He ended up spending two weeks in the ICU from the third degree burns he got at the show. Fun times.

You forgot to mention that Hanatarash eventually morphed into the legendary Boredoms.

Everything from this band is absolutely TARASH!

Imagine if they sold shirts, they'd probably just cut the logo into your chest

Japan has a pretty intense noise scene from merzbow to diesel guitar.

Imagine walking into random nightclub in Tokyo and seeing this.

If you don’t throw a dead cat in the audience, you’re making pop music. If you don’t finish the show with a bulldozer, what’s really the point?

I definitely respect you for covering these artists. They definitely take art into places most others don't even dare to tread and I can't help but respect that.  I love anything extreme and this is definitely on that level.  Loving these videos!

Love Hanatarash. Love Boredoms even more. The bulldozed venue should’ve been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site after that gig.

This band sounds insane throwing passed away cats , destroying stages and hurling molotov cocktails sounds really unsafe

Club owner: sure wish someone would destroy my venue.
Hanatarash: got you fam

This band has fascinated me for so long but has only had some exposure into what really went on so I really appreciate the video
