Ersatz Short | "LOTUS"

An instructor holds a demo on the JL-4 "Lotus" gas mask, developed by Cohen Tobacco for general issue by the Crown Army.

This is a small worldbuilding short for Ersatz since the pilot is still a while away, but I hope it was interesting regardless. Voiced by the incredible John Whinfield, and mixed by the very talented Mars Worm.

Merch helps fund the production of the pilot!

ERSATZ is a surreal horror about an amnesiac in an endless war, with the first episode currently out!

Love the irony of a tobacco company making a gas mask.

It turns "Biological Warfare" into something strangely beautiful.

"It gets used to you, see"

TOTALLY zero implications of biologically horrifying mishaps occuring.

Love that they have to baby sit the gas masks like their sourdough yeast.

Having a gas mask fuse with you on a biological level is horrifying

I love how it's not even that creepy, there's some people I know that would absoutly try to keep one as a pet

Thanks for letting me voice this lovely short! Honoured to pop into the world of Ersatz. :)

It’s said to be warm to the touch, I imagine on cold nights soldiers hold them close to not only keep it alive but themselves (idk much about this world but just a little fun idea I had :D)

Biological equipment that is just standard issue and not out of the ordinary. This tells so much about the greater universe of this series.

i think its kind of cute how its like a buddy that keeps you alive

I noticed in the teaser that the gas mask on one of the characters had an organic, fleshy look to it. I wasn't sure if it was a case of the gas mask becoming part of a contam soldier over time but now I know that the mask is biological! Such an intriguing and unique concept!

This concept is incredibly chilling. An organic, seemingly “” gas mask — an item made to facilitate breathable air in musky conditions, is an interesting take on a dystopian chemical warfare story. This concept video ALONE leaves room for a bunch of eerie potential n story telling. What could possibly go wrong w those gas masks💀Can’t wait for the actual plot👍✨

This is so cool. The idea of living breathing gas mask that you have to feed and water is totally wicked! To me, the vents on the 'lotus' kind of look like cross sections of a lotus root. Your aesthetic for this is really unique, really awesome work!!

I'd definitely get emotionally attached to my mask. That's a friend now.
