Professor Silly Reactions

Based on the success of Sad Wings of Destiny in 1976, Judas Priest was picked up by a major label for their third album Sin After Sin (1977).

Join me for a raw reaction and then an analysis and rating after listening to the album for a whole week. Why is it that this album isn't mentioned on the lists I've been referencing, while the albums before and after are?

One of the best rock-metal band🤘

The Sinner and Diamonds and Rust on Unleashed in the East, which was their mostly live album in 1979, are much heavier. That album is one of my desert-island albums.

No one ever mentions the Point of Entry album. It has a couple of misses but has some of their most iconic songs ever ! 🤟🔥💯keep going through them all

Add Judas Priest Hell Bent for Leather album to your list. Pure heavy metal at its finest

Listen to them as they were released. I did! ...yeah I'm old

Diamonds and Rust was written by Baez for Bob Dylan with whom she had a long relationship. Judas Priest took their name from a Bob Dylan song.Later they did a great slow version of it.

Good review & always good to see the Cat. Powerage is a classic so yes i reccomend not to skip it. Let There Be Rock (1977) is my favourite AC/DC album which is close to where you are now for release dates.

That is why Slayer did a cover of Dissident - Heavy !!! 🤘

Another great album is Stained Class perfect Metal 🔥🔥🔥

My take: This is a great album hampered by not so great production. It's real importance in metal history isn't in commercial or critical success, but in the huge influence it (especially Dissident Aggressor) had on the metal bands that followed.
Those long fade-outs are the avocado green appliances of the music world. They were all the rage back then, but no one can figure out why now.

Dissident Aggressor double-kick drumming is widely recognized as a major precursor to the speed and thrash metal genres 🤘
Unleashed in the East is a must...

Powerage IS AC/DC’s most rounded & best album for me.

Thumbs up for Riot. Their albums Narita and Fire Down Under are especially awesome. A Farewell to Kings is a no-brainer. For Thin Lizzy, you want Vagabonds of the Western World, Jailbreak and Live and Dangerous. Bad Reputation is a good album but not one I would have someone listen to who prefers a heavier sound.

Super psyched for Stained Class! Confused how you were in a metal band & Maiden fan but only heard MTV Priest songs.

Great reaction! I'd love to see Rock City by Riot, one of the earliest U S Metal band and the first U.S Power Metal band 🤟 (Also Narita, Fire Down Under and especially Thundersteel by Riot are awesome!!)

"Bad reputation", yes!
"Powerage", yes!

Album is produced by Roger Glover, Deep Purple Bass player. He produced also some Nazareth albums. Some of these tracks sound fantastic live. Their first metal album is the next one, Stained Class.

Yeah, i agree that production is a bit too clean, but i guess it was still a big step for Judas Priest at the time, working with a producer etc.
Interestingly, Dissident Aggressor was covered by SLAYER on their South of Heaven album and for some reason it sounded almost like all other songs on the album.
I agree with Riot and Rush picking
I think i can already recommend you Judas Priest - Killing Machine (1978) aka Hell Bent for Leather and of course UNLEASHED IN THE EAST! - live album with great heavier versions of songs you already know,
Riot - Narita (1979), Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations (1980) and Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (1980) the birth of NWOBHM as it is, Accept - Breaker (1981) one of the most important german metal bands, Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance (1982) of course
Thanks for interesting metal journey!
